An officer and a gentleman
An AVSM winner, with 34 years in the Indian Army, Major General Balasubrahmanian is today best remembered for being the founding secretary of the Computer Society of India in 1965. During his tenure as president of CSI from 1969 to 1972, he charted the future course of action for the association. His tryst with IT had started even earlier when after the Chinese War in 1962, Balasubrahmanian was picked as a young major from ASC to head the computer center set up by the Defense Ministry. His subsequent roles included being the technical secretary of the Advisory Group on Computers in Defense as well as the EDP Director at DRDO HQ. In recognition of his services, he won the 'Silver Core' from the International Federation of Information Processing.
