Strengths: Employees posed strong faith in management. People-friendly policies kept overall satisfaction levels high
Weaknesses: Low satisfaction levels on compensation
Employee Size
2002-03, 800
2003-04, 1,600
2004-05, 3,400

In the last two years, CSC increased its headcount to 3,400 (at closing of the last fiscal), a jump of 300% from its employee base of 800 in 2003. Needless, to say that HR management gets more complicated with manpower jumps. Therefore, salary hike of over 17% (higher than the Top 20 average of 16.2%), on an average, across levels and a high retention rate notwithstanding, CSC was unable to match its past performance. CSC was at #7 on the HR front.

However, in terms of employee satisfaction, CSC's performance has improved this year, up two ranks. Employees gave high ratings to the company on satisfaction factors such as flexibility of work hours, growth opportunities and career development, organization culture and image, and salary.

Despite its low key branding and a relatively low profile in the industry, the infrastructure management services company, beat Indian IT heavyweights like HCL Technologies and Wipro Technologies as the 'Most Preferred Employer' and ranked #8 as the 'Dream Company'.

The overall satisfaction level was quite high among employees. Nearly 76% of the employees said that they would recommend the company to close friends seeking employment. Only 13% agreed strongly with the statement 'I would leave this job if another reputed company offered me a job with a 20% hike in salary'. Over 80% employees expressed pride in being associated with the organization, which speaks volumes about the overall image the company has been able to project for itself.

Compensation may become a pain point for CSC in the future. Only 38% of the employees expressed satisfaction over the pay packets the company doles out. However, a strong bond between the leadership and the employees helped CSC establish itself as one of the Top 10 employers of the IT industry.
