BPO Rankings: 2 | Convergys: The Success Saga
Inorganic growth strategy helped expand business
Monday, August 28, 2006

After the sporadic drive to ramp up operations in India in FY '05 with a slew of new centers, FY '06 was a little sedate. Even as no new centers were added, Convergys continued with the organic growth by filling up capacities at the centers added over the previous fiscal. It also relied on inorganic growth to expand its business line-entering the finance and accounting domain in a more formidable way with the acquisition of the Deloitte Consulting Outsourcing.

  • Forays into finance and accounting services
  • Rapid changes at top level-Country Manager Jaswinder Ghumman quit in April '05; Rakesh Chopra took over from interim head Mike Jackson in December '05. Chopra quit in June '06

Optus Telecom, one of the largest acquisitions for the Indian operations in 2005, contributed the most to Indian operations; revenues out of India grew from 20% in FY '05 to 30% in FY '06. Going forward, Convergys plans to set up four new centers across US, India and the Philippines in 2007, with the largest of them lined up for India.
