The Top 10: Wipro Technologies - The Right Chords
Wipro has focused on learning and growth, helping drive up e-sat
Wednesday, September 06, 2006

It's been testing times for Wipro in the last two years when employee satisfaction levels dipped to an all time low. At #8 this year, Wipro Technologies is back in the reckoning. The company's HR scores have always been one of the best in the survey and it comes at #3 on that scorecard.

Wipro's key focus last year was on strengthening its learning culture. From an organizational standpoint, this is important with the complexity of projects outsourced increasing over the years. From an employee standpoint this is beneficial as employee learning is enhanced in the process. The Global Learning Alliance Program initiated last year is aimed at the development of senior leaders.  The learning alliance comprises Alcan, L'Oreal, Nissan, Schnieder Electric and Wipro.

The Stanford Advanced Management in collaboration with Stanford University is a specially customized management program to suit Wipro's needs. So far, 100 program managers across geographies have been covered. A Project Manager (PM) Academy was also launched to groom and develop high caliber PMs through a three-stage framework of behavior, performance and technical skills. A 'Coaching for Leadership' program has been launched with the aim to coach 500 managers.

An initiative entitled 'Above & Beyond' has been initiated to reward some of the best performers in the company. This initiative is an effort to give instant recognition to all performers in addition to regular rewards and recognition programs.

Wipro has also put in place a 'half day working' and 'work from home' policies to cater to personal exigencies. Training emerged as an area of strength for Wipro Tech according to the survey. Brand equity is also a high point for this technology giant. However, job content and salary emerge as pain points.
