The Top 10: 10 - Accel Frontline: A Happy Mix
Its HR initiatives may not be unique, but Accel has done the right things to keep employees happy
Wednesday, September 06, 2006

Accel Frontline, the JV between Accel ICIM Systems & Services and Singapore-based Frontline Technologies Corporation, has been one of the more consistent participants in the DQ BES over the last couple of years. Accel Frontline's HR rank plays spoilsport, but only slightly. A fairly high employee satisfaction score pulls up the software and services company as it establishes itself comfortably in the Top 10.

The environment at Accel is replete with developmental opportunities. To meet the constant changes in the industry, employee training and development has been woven into the fabric of the organization. A Chief Training Officer is responsible for the training needs of the employees. A list of skill-sets is maintained by HR and is constantly upgraded. Employees are encouraged to choose the technology they wish to be trained in. The company sets aside handsome skill allowances for the same. Apart from training and development, Accel treats its employees as individuals who share the Accel dream to emerge as a leading IT service provider.

Key drivers of employee satisfaction today are the organization's performance, brand, and employee engagement in organization affairs. Employees get the opportunity to directly interact with customers. This not only increases employee engagement, but also helps employees understand customer requirements better which in turn works out to be beneficial for the organization. Performers are given recognition through awards, and star performers are offered special training to develop new skills as well as a fast track career path.

Last year, Accel started giving ESOPs to employees, and today, over 60% of its employees are shareholders in the organization. This has had a tremendous impact in scaling up the level of motivation, pride, and feeling of ownership among employees.
