What has essentially taken all these companies to the Top 20 is a very high
employee satisfaction score. This brings us back to the ever-increasing
challenge of size that the big three are trying to battle. They stay right on
top when it comes to the HR scorecard. In fact, the Top 20 HR tally looks
significantly different from the final tally based on consolidated HR and
employee satisfaction scores. Tech Mahindra and Mindtree, two familiar names in
the Top 20 in the past, are down despite coming at #5 and #8 respectively on the
HR scorecard. Patni at #12, Moser Baer at #18 and L&T infotech at #20 on the
HR tally also do not make it to the Final 20. Low employee satisfaction levels
sweep out all four from the Top 20. HCL Infosystems storms into the Top 20
riding on very high employee expectation scores, but does not make it to number
one. Induslogic, Sierra Atlantic, Interra and Sasken too enter the Top 20 on the
basis of moderately high employee satisfaction scores.
Disappointments
Rolta remains the single-largest drop this year. Rolta's been a regular Top 20
company and had received a four star rating last year. Last year, Rolta
introduced the Monthly Performance Incentive Scheme, ESOPs and Medical Insurance
Schemes. However, despite some good initiatives, the company performed poorly on
both HR as well as employee satisfaction scorecards. Interestingly, while
employee satisfaction levels have actually dipped for Rolta, the same is not
true for its HR score. Rolta's HR score is very comparable to last year, which
implies that overall industry average in this category has actually gone up. The
Top 20 average on the HR scorecard is 8.5 while Rolta's HR score is 7.2, which
only establishes the fact that the industry has raised the benchmark.

Note: The correlation coefficient figures indicate the correlation
between the statements and the overall satisfaction. For example a
statement like 'I would definitely recommend this company to close
friends of mine seeking employment' has high correlation with overall satisfaction |
Keane India too fails to make it to the Top 20. But it remains different from
Rolta simply because the company has actually upped its HR performance in the
last one year though failing to make it the Top 20. But its HR score of 7.2, up
by more than a point from last year, still falls below the industry average.
Employee satisfaction levels too have dipped on key parameters like salary,
appraisal and overall company image. On a positive note, Keane does well on
training and retention.
Both Mindtree and Tech Mahindra upped their HR scores significantly. However,
dipping employee satisfaction scores affected both companies. An interesting
disparity that comes up in the case of Mindtree is that despite good salary
increments, its employees gave a thumbs-down to factors like salary and
appraisal. The reason for this could well be that despite the salary hikes this
year, Mindtree's compensation levels may not be matching industry levels. Page(s) 1 2 3 4
