The year 2005-06 saw Satyam entering the billion-dollar club. It added 120
new customers, including 12 Global and US Fortune 500 companies. Meanwhile, the
top five customers contributed 25% of revenues-down from 30% in 2004-05. To
leverage better emerging global opportunities, Satyam brought several
non-Indians at very senior levels. These include Michael Gallup from Deloitte
Consulting to head its Energy and utilities vertical business, Dr Peter M Heij
from LogicaCMG, as the head of Continental Europe, Dr Robert Baginski from
Accenture, as senior VP of global marketing and communications, and Timothy
Montgomery to head its insurance practice. To tap the growing global
opportunities, it tied up with SAP and KMD for the Danish market, and similarly
with Optimation for addressing New Zeeland, Triple Point Technology for US, IONA
Technologies for Europe, MB Machines for the Caribbean, and eBaoTech and
Microsoft for the Chinese market.
During the year Satyam also unlocked the value of its investment in Sify by
divesting its entire stake in the company. The growth verticals for Satyam were
manufacturing and BFSI, contributing close to 57% of the total revenue. Telecom
pitched in another 19%. The company also saw good growth in verticals like
retail and logistics. And WHO chose Satyam as the SI to overhaul their Global
Integrated Management System (GISM), covering WHO offices in six regions and 140
countries. Another high point was the company signing a five-year deal to
maintain, support, and enhance the application portfolio for Nissan.
