The government has not taken the alarming quantities and the threat posed by e-waste lightly. The Ministry of Environment and Forests is close to finalizing the worlds strictest set of rules on disposing of electronic waste. The rules have been framed by electronics equipment manufacturers with the help of NGOs. The NGOs including Greenpeace International, civil society group Toxicslink and Germanys external aid agency GTZ have worked with Indias Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT) to prepare these rules that have been submitted to the ministry.
