RANK 16: Cognizant Technology Solutions: The Big Fall-2

Job security remained a burning question, and saw the company slip considerably in rankings this year

Dataquest

Tuesday, September 10, 2002

Ashok Gupta
Global Head, HR

This was another company that took a hit, down from #5 last year to #16. Despite a bad year, attrition improved marginally from 14.8% to 12.1%, though retention did better (ranked 8th). Average tenure at the company was 2.3 years—well below the industry average of 3.25 years. The big changes, however, were on overall satisfaction (#13) and peer satisfaction (#12). As a result, preferred company and preferred employer rankings also got hit. Only 1% of all employees voted for it as their dream company (3.7% last year), but more importantly, only 23.3% of its own employees voted for it (down from 65% last year—second only to Wipro). Of those who didn’t vote for it, 33.3% said they preferred Infosys. Employees were reasonably happy with interpersonal relationships, training and development but not with job security.
