Dell has unveiled new database featuring quad-socket PowerEdge servers with new Intel Xeon dual-core technology and the new Microsoft SQL Server database. The offering simplifies migration to the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database environment, Dell said. Dell has increased the performance, efficiency and value of its high-performance PowerEdge 6800 and 6850 quad-socket servers. Featuring dual-core Intel Xeon processors, the new servers can deliver up to 51% increase in performance in compute-intensive workloads.

Dell said that these servers will perform better when combined with an 800 MHz front side bus expected to be available early next year. The systems management approach of Dell and its unique integration with industry standard management tools provides the capability to update server software, operating systems, and applications.
