A power-packed performance by this Delhi-based player of recordable and erasable compact disks, digital versatile discs and floppy diskettes (where it is the market leader) has seen it jump to #7 this time around. The company reported a stellar performance in the year ended March 2001, with revenues increasing by 117% to Rs 336 crore and net profit growing by 214% to Rs 138.51 crore. With Moser Baer repeatedly expanding capacity, gross block grew by 175% to Rs 671.19 crore. The company was placed at #2 in gross block, #3 in gross block growth, #13 in sales, #7 in profits, #7 in sales growth and #10 in profit growth. An impressive all-round performance led to the company jumping to #7 in overall rankings. Moser Baer is the lowest-cost manufacture of CDRs in the world and is expanding its capacity at a rapid pace. It plans to increase its CDR capacity from 150 million pieces per annum to 760 million pieces per annum by the end of fiscal 2002 and is investing Rs 1,000 crore on an ambitious expansion program. With the demand expected to continue its upward spiral and considering the economies of scales, Moser Baer should have little difficulty in sustaining this grand performance.
