Significant dissatisfaction on salary that the data doesn’t seem to warrant. Immediate managers may be an issue. |
|
Headquartered in Mumbai, this 2800 people strong customer care, back office and accounting services company has contact centers in Chennai, Mumbai and Gurgaon and is among the early ones to have come to India. All else notwithstanding there was one overriding story at eFunds—and it was about money. It was everywhere. Nearly 60% of the employees said they joined the company because they thought that the salary was good; yet, despite being among the highest paid employees in the industry, only 43% believed they were paid enough for the work they did; less than half believed they were paid at par with the industry; and finally—about half said they would most likely leave because of the money.
Overall, employees ranked satisfaction on compensation really low (rank #12). Another inevitably related area of dissatisfaction—the appraisal system. Only about half the employees believed their appraisal system was fair.
Both—disgruntlement on salaries and appraisals seemed connected to a certain level of dissatisfaction with immediate managers.
That said, however, the company’s relative strengths seemed to be a certain ease with the company’s culture (rank #7), training (#7), peers, relatively high sense of job security, low stress levels and a fair degree of empowerment. Immediate managers were a bit of an issue though employees said they felt a great sense of professional and personal accomplishment from their work. As a result, there were high scores on statements like “I feel my opinion matters in this company”, “I have the freedom to make decision on my own relating to my work” and “My goals are clearly defined and I know what I am excepted to do”.
The company, however, has internal and external branding issues. Internally, though a fairly large proportion of employees said they look forward to a long-term career in the company, they didn’t really vote for it overwhelmingly as their dream company. And not a single external industry employee named it as his or her dream company. Interestingly, about 13% of eFunds’ employees voted for Infosys while a really large 30% had fragmented choices.
