11. WeP Peripherals: This is Different

WeP entered the listings with a bang—one of the few largely hardware players to make the grade

Thursday, October 09, 2003

Dependra Mathur

GM (HR & quality)

This small Bangalore-based company made an impressive debut at #11. What was even more impressive was the fact that it is one of the few hardware companies that made it to the Top 20 list. The company was ranked high (6th) on its internal HR processes and parameters, but stood at 16th place in employee rankings. WeP employees also ranked the company high on company culture, appraisal systems, job content and composite satisfaction. Despite being ranked at #2 on the last average salary hike, employee satisfaction on that count remained low and only 39% of WeP employees strongly felt that they were paid on par with industry standards. Employees felt that the biggest effect of the recession had been a change in the composition of variable and fixed salary. Branding was another issue, with barely 12% of the employees naming it as their “dream company”. Among the rest, 21% named Infosys and 18% each said HP and IBM.
