eFunds: Dream Company

The New Jersey controversy had little effect on employee morale as employees are happy about job content though salary is a sore point. However, the industry looks at it as the dream company to work with
Monday, November 08, 2004

Funds climbed from No. 7 to No. 4 in ranking this year scoring fairly high on virtually every parameter. This was particularly commendable, since the New Jersey controversy that started off with eFunds seems to have had no impact on employee morale. Not only did the highest number of employees (68%) endorse eFunds as their preferred employer, the highest number of respondents in the survey labeled it as their dream company. More than 91% of its employees said they looked at a long-term career in the company.

The people management, training and appraisal systems seemed to be the strong points for eFunds. More than 88% endorsed the company's leadership, while more than 94% felt they were getting regular and constructive feedback from their manager/superior. At least 88% of the employees felt that the managers genuinely cared about the employees' professional and personal growth and encourage them to speak freely at meetings.

Reasons for Joining

“Strongly agree”
Good work environment 80 4
High growth opportunity 74 3
Good benefits 74 1

Though 80% of the employees were satisfied with the quality of training, more than 88% felt that this training genuinely helped them in their profession. More than 91% of the employees had a sense of belonging to the company-quite natural considering the good company image eFunds has managed to build amongst its employees. No wonder then, that a particularly high 97% felt that the work they do adds value to the company and contributes to its growth. Employees are happy about job content too-more than 88% are excited about the work they handle and 91% plus by the process they look after.

Reasons for Leaving

        Score Industry  Ranks
“Strongly agree”
For higher education 40 3
Salary 37 10
No growth opportunity 34 10

However, this should not imply that eFunds does not have any drawbacks. It trips somehow on questions of employee empowerment-only 38% felt they are encouraged to take risks in their work, while 65% had freedom to take decisions on their own related to work. There can be some contradiction here as 88% felt that their opinion mattered in the company. Salary is another sore point, as only 62% felt they were paid enough for the work they do, while only 54% are happy with the salary hikes they got.

Reasons for Stress

  Score Industry  Ranks
“Strongly agree”
Call volume/ Number of calls 40 3
Travel time 29 8
Repetitive nature of work 14 13

Considering its size, another brownie point for eFunds was that 65% claimed the job was not stressful. Only 20% had sleeping disorders-the lowest in the industry. Seems the company's claim that it has the highest capacity utilization in the industry is indeed true-naturally that means every employee has reduced working hours.

Type of illnesses

        Score Industry  Ranks
Sleeping disorder 20 13
Digestive system related disorder 14 13
Voice loss 9 6

What They Say

This company behaves in a very professional manner with employees 97%
I am very excited by the process I am working on 91%
People are treated fairly regardless of age, caste or religion 97%
