Even as Sun in India completed its transformation into a geographically
emerged market (GEM), the changes it brought along internally in the HR
structure led to an atmosphere of confusion among its employees. Result: a steep
drop in the BES Top 20 survey this yearit fell to #19 (from #10 the previous
year). A myriad of factors were responsible for this. Job security continued to
remain the most contentious issue, owing largely, to the right sizing initiative
on a global scale (though India was fairly insulated from this, perceptions
still prevail).
Relevancy of training was another issue, though the company ascribed this
perception to the possibility of training being imparted through e-learning and
not through classrooms. General disgruntlement against the appraisal system and
salary structure too brought Sun down.
Nevertheless, positive work environment, and professional and personal growth
emerged as key positive showings.
