SAS India is a perfect example of a global company spreading its best HR practices in this country too. It has been ranked among the top 10 best employers for the first time this year. And this is because of the companys strong international people practices that it has effectively replicated in India. Therefore, though SAS has a comparatively small employee pool in India consisting of just 140 employees, it marches far ahead of larger companies in training and appraisal procedures.
Having recently entered new business verticals such as pharma and education, SAS India has quickly adapted new learning and training modules from its Global Learning Department to carry out an internal knowledge transfer process. This is proving to be a bonus to employees from a career development and competency perspective.

The company has also scored high as far as employee perks and benefits are concerned, while creating a work-life balance. Flexible working hours, day-care benefits, concierge services, adoption assistance policy, are some global HR practices that have been implemented to touch employees lives in a positive way. Besides, the company also has a robust job rotation policy and intra-company transfers across the globe, aided by its global online recruitment portal.

SAS India has been proactive in offering salary hikes and devising innovative appraisal procedures to retain talent; it thereby managed to lower attrition significantly. However, on the flipside, it has scored low on career growth opportunities. The management attributes all this to the current hierarchical structure within the organization, which makes moving up the ladder a slow process. SAS hopes to work with employees to change the perception of slow growth and make job profiles more exciting.

While the going has been good for SAS so far, it remains to be seen how it continues to hold on to its niche talent and build its dream of a global talent pool.
