Intex forayed into the retail segment as part of its direct contact strategy. It set up 80 counters last year, which it plans to increase to 100 in Q1 and 200 by end of the current year. As initial investment, Intex has pumped in Rs 8 crore with the aim to achieve Rs 25 crore as revenue from the retail business. Expanding its product portfolio, the company forayed into the car audio segment with the launch of its MP3 FM Modulator. Another Rs 3.5 crore was invested to ramp the service infrastructure, where headcount grew from 200 to 300.

Demand for TI products in India rose with increased design activity in industrial and medical electronics, and energy and customers like GE Medical Systems and Conzerv. It increased OEM partners to reach 1,000 by the year-end. This was a marked shift from earlier times when TI in India was more focused on supporting only the global R&D. On the R&D front, the India development center contributed significantly to the development of LoCosto and OMAP processors. TI entered into a relationship with IISc, whereby it joined TIs premier research network as the first university outside of the US.

The company changed its name from Network Appliance to NetApp. The new branding had NetApps marketing machinery running in India as well. The company also expanded its operations with new offices. It created a new team to address the government and the public sector vertical requirements. It will be working closely with large SI partners to address this market segment. CBDT, Kotak Bank, HDFC Standard Life, Infosys Technologies, and ANZ IT were among the big customer wins during the year.

After a year of acquisitions, it was consolidation time for Geodesic. As part of its overall de-risk strategy, the company ventured into newer markets like Far East and also made a big splash in the retail segment. Geodesic announced partners and customers globally, including BenQ, Mitac, PALM, Indiatimes, Gotenborg Post, etc. It increased its customer-facing presence with the launch of Idea Radio (based on its flagship Mundu Radio), and other VoIP and social networking solutions. Its subsidiary, Chandamama, got an online presence.

In FY 08, Accel bounced back after a subdued FY 07. In a major development, the company became the subsidiary of the BT Group which acquired 51% stake in its equity. That apart, the year also saw Accel going in for acquisitionssignificant ones like Telesis Global, Network Programs, and, more recently the warranty management services companyXLNC. On the infrastructure management side, it signed with clients like Jaypee Group for SAP infrastructure. In banking, SBI continued to be its major client.
