Avaya, the parent company of AGCL entered into a merger agreement with Sierra Holdings and Sierra Merger to merge Sierra Merger. with Avaya, consequent to which Sierra Merger ceased to exist. The company expanded its R&D operations in Pune and appointed Samir Gulve as the MD, Avaya India, and VP, Avaya Global Communication Solutions division. Avaya consolidated its product offerings in the enterprise mobility space by collaborating with Motorola to provide handheld mobility solutions and enterprise WLAN.

Canon identified three key customer segments, namely, government, consumer imaging and production, and graphics. It realigned its business around these by creating separate divisions and hiring 39 people. It unleashed 80 new products and an aggressive marketing campaign; highlight being the IPL sponsorship. It launched aCanon Image Lounge and a Canon Business Solution Lounge in Gurgaon. It also tied up with 13 national retail chains, 28 regional chains, and 32 distributors for its camera range.

FY 08 was a time for re-alignment for EMC in India. After re-alignment in its go-to-market strategy earlier in the year, there was change in guard with Alok Ohrie succeeding Manoj Chugh (promoted to lead the global accounts practice for EMC in Asia Pacific and Japan) as the president of EMC India and Saarc region. It expanded its portfolio with 25 new information infrastructure products and solutions. The increased momentum delivered by its India go-to-market strategy led to further expansion with EMC opening its seventh office in Hyderabad.

The opening up of the Indian market, especially the government sector, prompted CA to market itself aggressively to counter its sluggish growth in the US. It partnered with the likes of Wipro, HCL, TCS, Tulip, and Spanco, showcasing reference customers like Punjab government and HDFC besides retaining senior managers like Ninad Karpe and Vibha Agarwal (now e-gov head). It was an excellent year for Juniper thanks to the ongoing SWAN deal with Himachal Pradesh and Bihar, raising its stake in the government vertical. An investment plan of $70 mn was committed by Juniper for the expansion of its R&D center. On the service provider business, it enhanced its relationship with four telcos for its NGN product portfolio. The company identified defense and retail as a part of its growth strategy for the next fiscal.
