FY 08 marked the companys efforts to expand and strengthen its global delivery system. It opened its office in Prague, the Czech Republic, further consolidating its presence in Europe and enabling it to look at the upcoming IT market in Eastern Europe. The company also explored avenues in South East Asia and the Far East. It appointed a new president for its global IT services company in the US geography, a significant move as Birlasoft earns the majority of its revenue from the US.

InfoTech continued its growth in key verticals like manufacturing, utilities, telecom, and aerospace. The company appointed Don Kietly as sales VP, North America, to expand its business in the Americas, while Mathew Chacko was appointed as COO for the InfoTech-Hal JV company formed last year. It strengthened the EMI vertical by promoting Krishna Bodanapu as senior VP of non-UTC engineering services. There was a contract with Tele Atlas to provide extensive map data and software development services.

Rashi streamlined its products and brand line into divisions like components, peripherals, PCD, and networking and solutions to focus and engage with customers in a better way. It enhanced its components business by adding new principles such as XFX, Leadtek, Jetway, and AMD. The launch of ASUS Eee PC was another feather in its cap. It added Procurve and Nexans under the networking business and Freecom under peripherals. It extended its relationship with Sandisk for memory cards targeting the photography channel market.

Infinites acquisition of US-based Comnet International, a telecom-focused outsourced product development and IT services player with a delivery center in Chennai, marked the companys foray into the telecom space. The company earmarked $30 mn for investment in the telecom space. It also planned to seal two more acquisitions in the telecom and infrastructure space in Europe. Consequently, Infinite planned to raise Rs 200 crore through an IPO to support its inorganic growth as well as expansion of its facilities in Bangalore and the NCR.

In FY 08, the company went in for an IPO and managed to raise Rs 126 crore. The fund was raised primarily for setting-up infrastructure and to support acquisitions. The company inaugurated a 85,000 sq ft Chennai facility. The year also saw Zylog acquiring a number of companies including Chennai-based Ewak Creative Compusoft and UK-based Anodas Software in the insurance segment. It appointed Kannan Krishnan as director Asia Pacific and John Mehrmann as vice president, business development.
