Siemens bundled its IT solutions, services, and software activities worldwide under a single roof, Siemens IT Solutions and Services. The new consolidated entity is continuing to execute its strategy of supporting Siemens industry, energy, and healthcare sectors as a cross-sector business, along with its IT and software competence.

SISL formed a major strategic partnership with Corizon to address the global demand for flexible SOA at the user interface level. Also, Siemens and Fujitsu collaborated to build new biometric identity authentication solutions, and market PalmSecure and ID Centre.

A major player in the airport infrastructure vertical, SISL supplied the entire ITC infrastructure, and modernized and integrated all IT systems for the Hyderabad International Airport, as well as the Delhi and Bangalore airports. It also implemented a multi-location complex SAP for MRF. It won orders for IT infrastructure ramp-up of Star TV and Sun Network. And a huge deal from BBC to design, build, and operate a new coding and multiplexing infrastructure.

47|NIIT Limited : Training Re-packaged
Known for years as an IT training player, NIIT seems to have finally succeeded in re-branding itself as a global talent development company. Right from offering banking and insurance programs to school education, English training, and individual learning.

In the school education business, it bagged orders from the Maharashtra and Bihar governments for computer education in 900 schools. It also tied up with Infospectrum for customized educational resource planning solution in schools.

Looking beyond China, NIIT focused on the African market with centers already operational in a Botswana and South Africa. It expanded its global footprint with Cuba, Nicragua, and Honduras too getting added to the list.

On the flip side, even as individual learning enrollments went up by 25%, thanks to English language and professional skills training programs, the corporate training business took a beating owing to the slowdown in the US market.

48|Hexaware Technologies : Breaking Tradition
A tier-2 IT services company ambitious to join the biggies, Hexaware roped in senior executives from Wipro and HCL, including PR Chandrashekhar as CEO, Pratik Agarwal as CFO, and Rajiv Pant as head of North America operations.

This was supplemented by all-round HR initiatives. Hexaware has the distinction of employing the maximum number of women managers (in % terms) among Indian IT companies.

Hexaware identified testing solutions, BABI (Business Analytics), and verticals like transportation and asset management as key focus areas. ERP was the biggest revenue generator (31%). Traditionally very strong in the PeopleSoft business, Hexaware grew its practice in SAP and Oracle. After the acquisition of FocusFrame, Hexaware also added automated testing and consulting services to its portfolio.

Hexaware launched a new venture, Risktech to offer risk technologies for the BFSI space. It added sixty-six new clients across verticals and now has sixty-three were global Fortune 500 companies.
