Cadence opened its third Indian R&D facility in Noida during FY 08. CEO Mike Fister came calling once more ostentatiously to inaugurate the facility, but more to woo Indian customers. The company pumped in Rs 47 crore in this 93,000 sq ft facility, making it the largest Cadence R&D site outside of the US. The center focused on developing design automation solutions to address the needs of engineers designing at 65 nm and 45 nm technology process nodes.

Headstrongs focus on consulting business, and on the financial services domain, has paid off with nine of the top ten investment banks on the Wall Street as its customers. While its business has grown by over 40% y-o-y, the company has gone in for a major growth model, diversification in new geographies, and expansion of its service offerings. More than 60% of its revenues was coming from capital market sector. The company is also focusing on the PSU and service industries for revenue generation.

In FY 08, this Linux solutions major made inroads in the e-governance domain. It bagged a number of projects including Sarv Siksha Abhiyan (HRD Ministry), e-courts (Supreme Court), e-post (Dept of Post), and CSC projects in West Bengal and Bihar. On the business front, healthcare and education were the two hot verticals driving the companys growth. Red Hat however continued to focus on BFSI and telecom verticals and expects a growth of 50% in telecom and government sector.

Pune-based Cybage Software added more than 50 customers to its kitty including some big names like Dell, Google, Oracle, and Fidelity. The company opened a 4,500-seater campus in Pune with an investment of Rs 80 crore. This consolidated its three centers in the city. It also opened a 350-seater development center in Gandhinagar with an investment of over Rs 10 crore. This year, Cybage has Netherlands and UK as target markets. It will also ramp up presence in France, Italy, Belgium, Australia, and New Zealand.

While the company retained its stronghold in the retail vertical, it was remote infrastructure monitoring which kept FCS busier through the year. The company added three Fortune companies to its clientele roster in this space. Much of the companys efforts in FY 2008 went into building infrastructure and capacity, to support expansion in the tier-2 and tier-3 cities, with the intention to reduce cost of operations. The preparations to launch the Chandigarh, Noida SEZ, and the Dehradun development centers were part of this strategy.
