The big news for Novell India in FY 08 was the announcement of investment worth $100 mn over the next three years, for scaling up India operations including R&D. The company inaugurated its new India Development Center (IDC) in Bangalore, the largest engineering facility outside of the US. The year also saw the revolving door effect in Novell Indias organizational structure: Revathi Kasturi who had taken over after the demerger with Onward made way for Sandeep Menon as the new MD.

This is expected to start showing results in FY 09, with the company expecting to clock between 70-77% growth in India next year, a deviation from the 50% and near about growth that it maintained last year and this year. This bagged a project on its patented RFID cashless transaction wristband from Comic-con International. It also signed an agreement with LG Electronics to enable it to deploy LGs IRIS recognition product. This ensured that Bartronics had the entire range of T&A and access control products and solutions starting from Bar Code-based solutions to MiFare, fingerprint, and now Iris recognition.

KLG Systel acquired a 51% majority stake in Atlantis Lab, an engineering solutions company. This helped the company tap into the engineering services outsourcing opportunities from countries like North America and Europe while strengthening its base in the domestic market. It also helped the company widen its reach in Chennai, Pune, and Bangalore, the design hubs of the country. On the product front, KLG entered into a collaboration with SAP to develop a solution for the power sector called Vidushi.

A provider of IT-driven learning solutions for schools, Educomp acquired a 51% stake in the US-based Learning.com for $24.5 mn. It also formed two JVs with Singapore-based Raffles Education to exploit the growth opportunities in the Indian and Chinese markets. It bagged contracts from 395 schools in Rajasthan and Jharkhand under its Instructional and Computing Technologies (ICT) program, in partnership with central and state governments, to bridge the divide of computer learning between the private and government schools.
