Focus on India emerged as one of the key themes for Applabs during FY 08, and further appointed its current president and COO, Makarand Teje as the CEO. The company also grew its service portfolio to performance testing with the Indian market and customers in mind. However, there was no luck with customer wins in India. The other services that it looked at were regressing, certification, testing automatic services, and quality process consultancy. Globally, AppLabs struck better luck and added 26 customers during the year.

Even with a slowdown in the technology sector, Ness Technologies continued its India ramp-up in Bangalore. It stuck to its Extended Development Center (EDC) model in its product development outsourcing for ISVs and managed to attract non-ISV clients last year. Notable wins were Quintiles in the life sciences, Pearson in publishing, and ITV in broadcasting. In the life sciences area, Ness strengthened its presence by acquired MS9 Consulting, a specialized IT services firm with clients like Novartis and Bayer.

A good year for Epson; it increased sales across most categories and in sync, the market share also increased. Epson remained number two in terms of market share for the overall printer market in India with a 19% share of the pie. As far as individual product categories are concerned, in dot matrix printers its market share went up to 45% with 189,793 volume shipments. Meanwhile on POS printers, Epson was the clear number one and completely dominated the market with 52% market share.

Autodesks relation with academic institutions continued in FY 08; after setting up a CoE in IIT Chennai and a Research Chair in NID, Ahmedabad the year before, the company signed a MoU with IIT Kanpur to establish a Digital Innovation Lab for innovative design and research. On the industry front, it introduced the concept of Digital Prototyping following its acquisition of the Chinese company Hanna Strategies. This was targeted at the Indian manufacturing industry to improve their productivity and reduce manufacturing costs.

Telecom, software, banks, and manufacturing gave Tyco a strong foothold in the structured cabling market with the company bagging more than 40 projects for data center solutions from customers like RBI, SBI, Verizon, Vodafone, Idea, and Symantec. The company also forayed into residential cabling system. It started various partner programs in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. It conducted training programs, called AMPNET certification, enabling people to set up their own enterprises or start as a system integrator.
