39|Seagate Technologies : Strategic Moves
Spurred by a booming digital content market, FY 08 was a milestone year for Seagate, globally. It became the first hard drive manufacturer to ship one billion units. In India too, the company had a good run. It added new products while going after geographical coverage, which seemed to have paid off well.

Rajesh Khurana, Country Manager

u Introduced Savvio 10K 3 hard drive for enterprise storage servers
u

l Start-up Year: 2001 l Products & Services: Digital storage solutions l Distributors: 4 l Address: India Liaison office, 914 and 914A, Bock E, International Trade Tower, Nehru Place, New Delhi l Tel: +91-11-26286678-79 l Website: www.seagate.com

Among new products added, there was huge demand for surveillance solutions. The Seagate Partner program saw close to 60 partners joining in only for surveillance products. Video streaming was another new solution that did well. But what took the cake was that Seagate has forty-two different kinds of personal drives to cater to various segments of the market. The company also enhanced its White Box Solution, specifically for the SMB segment.

Seagate also expanded its reach across cities: with sixty-five new Seagate Access Points and after sales support reaching forty-three now. It also focused on regional distribution through Fortune Marketing and Supertron Electronics, which definitely paid off.

40|Prithvi Information Solutions : Success Onsite
Prithvi recorded maximum growth among all the large and mid-tier export services firms in FY 08, even as rupee appreciation did not affect the companys margin thanks to its largely onsite model.

In an uncertain market, Prithvi focused on its existing top segments by growing telecom and BFSI considerably. Taking new market development initiatives, it succeeded in retail and stepped up activity in healthcare. These two segments are expected to contribute significantly in the coming fiscal.

Satish Vuppalapati, MD

Highlights
u Made in-roads in the domestic market
u
Acquired Agadia Systems. Prithvi will leverage expertise gained from this acquisition to mine its existing client-base in the healthcare vertical

l Start-up Year: 1998 l Products & Services: IT consulting l Employees: 2,821 l Branches: 12 l Delivery centers: 4 l Address: 10Q3-A1, Cyber Towers, HITEC City, Madhapur, Hyderabad-500081 l Tel: +91-40-66846019 l Fax: +91-40-66846021 l Website: www.prithvisolutions.com

In the last few years, Prithvi has consistently focused on building functional and domain expertise, which has resulted in offering more value to customers. This worked, as Prithvi managed to increase billing rates in a slowdown-affected market.

Like most other IT services firms, Prithvi also started looking at other geographies for growth and margin. In FY 08, it made its debut in the domestic market, and garnered 2% of its total revenues from India. Inorganic growth strategy made it acquire Agadia, a US-based company with experience in the pharmacy benefit management sector.
