Jupiter International
Jupiter started a new innings last year when it forayed into the wireless networking space. The company appointed Edimax as national distributor for its wireless networking products. Its home brand Frontech (encompassing several product categories) fetched good revenues, especially the UPS range. While its component business grew substantially, Jupiter introduced several new models to Frontechs existing product line, matching current technology trends.

California Software
Calsoft signed a five-year product development contract with Ixia, a leading global provider of performance test systems for IP based infrastructures and services. Subsequently, Calsoft and IXIA have established an IXIA center of excellence in Chennai. The company also entered into a JV with Aitkin Spence(AS), head quartered in Colombo. The JV would be leveraging the domain expertise of AS and the technical expertise of Calsoft. The subsidiary Calsoft Labs started distributing Flashlite 3.1 IE Plug-in player for Smoothway devices based on Samsung S3C2450 running WinCE 5.0.

Fortune Marketing
Even as Fortune Marketing faced a tough Q3 and Q4 in FY 09, this did not deter the company from signing some new lucrative distribution contracts. These included signing up as the third national distributor for Symantec India for distributing the entire product portfolio under the Norton brand. Fortune was also signed on by US based Infonova for distribution of high quality surveillance products, and by PNY for distribution of memory products.

Synechron Technologies
During the year, insurance became a key vertical contributing almost 40% to its revenues, up from 15% the year before. While focus on capital markets continued, mortgage banking revenues dipped and Internet media grew to become one of the four core domains with maximum customer wins. It deferred its much awaited IPO due to the market conditions, but made a strategic acquisition of a wall street boutique company called Syscore. It also expanded its RIM practice with a sixty member team based in Pune.

Aftek Infosys
After a year of joint ventures, partnerships, and consolidations, FY 09 was relatively devoid of action for Aftek Infosys. It embarked on a major de-risking strategy across all businesses. Though it launched a few products, the lack of significant customer wins led to the major dip in revenues. Nevertheless, it successfully ported Android BSP with STB application which took Aftek a step further towards developing complete Android based end-to-end solutions. The company also entered the physical security and surveillance space with the launch of SpyGuard security system.

DB Power Electronics
DB had nothing much to boast of in FY 09 as it continued with its usual business of manufacturing power back-up solutions. The company focused on upgrading its industrial and online product range with improved features like unity power factor at input, low THDi figures and SNMP interface with diagnostic features. DB had only wins from IT and BPO, manufacturing, data center, and telecom.

Kingston India
FY 09 was a good year for Kingston for its Flash offerings; it particularly saw good demand for its 1GB thumb drives. The company also focused on creating more awareness for its flash removable media. Consequently, Kingston saw good business in India for both thumb drives and SD cards. The lower excise duty of 4% for flash memory products in India also augured well for the company. Meanwhile, its memory module (DRAMS) business also grew substantially, thanks to its close tie-ups with many PC OEMs.

Red Hat India
The acquisition of KVM and the desktop virtualization capability (VDI) from Qumranet enhanced Red Hats capabilities in the end-to-end virtualization space. It increased the number of Red Hat certified engineers in India. The ISV ecosystem also got broader with the launch of OSCI which helped increase Red Hat partner base to 119 in India alone. The company bagged some key projects in the e-gov space. It also roped in large customers like LIC, APTDC, Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC), Axis Bank, Naukri.com, and Indian Express Group, among others.

Affiliated Computer Services India
This was a huge growth year for ACS India operations as the economic slowdown prompted the company to increase offshoring. Even as Philippines got the voice BPO jobs, many of the managed infrastructure jobs were created in India, taking the IT manpower to more than double. However, ACS has been slow to capitalize on the growth of the government market, its strength in its home base. It was apparently working with Maytas for IT on an infrastructure project but was impacted as the Satyam scam broke.

KLG Systel
The year was not too good. Consolidated revenues dropped 14%, while net profits dropped drastically by 41%. However, the company kept bagging new orders, especially in the power sector, that could help it this year. The major orders in the year included a Rs 132 crore order from Punjab State Electricity Board for designing, erecting and commissioning sub-stations; a Rs 30 crore order from Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam to commission thirteen new sub-stations along with 33KV and 11KV lines; and other orders worth more than Rs 100 crore from Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.
