Microsoft India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the
Government of Orissa to jointly develop and deploy technology solutions for
e-governance in the state.
Government of Orissa IT & Tourism Commissioner cum Secretary Asit
Tripathy and Microsoft Corporation India Enterprise Partner Group Director Sudev
Muthya signed the MoU for a period of one year.
As part of this MoU, the Orissa Computer Application Center (OCAC) has been
appointed as a Strategic Microsoft Technology Partner (SMTP) for the state,
consulting, developing and deploying solutions based on Microsoft technologies.
OCAC will develop a core team to work and train on Microsoft technologies.
Microsoft will invest in training and skills transfer on Microsoft products and
technologies.
The MoU entails the setting up of a Microsoft Center of Excellence (CoE) in
collaboration with OCAC. The CoE will showcase an array of Microsoft products
and solutions and demonstrate the interoperability of Microsoft products with
other platforms.
The center will also facilitate the state Government to conduct technical
training sessions for government personnel. The MoU also entails the roll out of
the Microsoft Valuable Project initiative for engineering students in the state
of Orissa. This initiative will help create a pool of manpower well versed in
software development for e-governance projects of the state government.
Microsoft will advise the on the various e-governance applications that are
available today and recommend the ones most suited for the state Government.
As part of the MoU, Microsoft is also committed to facilitate the
implementation of specific applications for the state Government including a
Digital Dashboard prototype application, Chief Minister’s Information Systems
and Panchyat Raj & Rural Development application.
Tripathi said, "We realize the tremendous potential IT has in making
government processes more transparent and participative. The MoU with Microsoft
is a significant step in this direction and highlights our commitment towards
making e-governance a reality in the state of Orissa."
