When Linux made its entry a decade ago, many in the industry wondered whether
the Penguin would survive the heat generated by proprietary software vendors.
But in time, the Penguin played cool even in the hottest geographies and kick
started the open source revolution. The open source road is full of success
stories with each milestone signifying Linux's growing acceptance in the
enterprise.
The three-city Red Hat Insight Seminar on the "Price Performance
Advantage of Linux" is all about the Penguin's roaring success.
Showcasing it, Linux major Red Hat brought to table the unique value proposition
Linux has for enterprises of all sizes and demonstrated successful case studies
on how an enterprise can optimize on their IT investments by implementing Red
Hat Linux which offers best in class TCO and RoI. The issue of acceptance of
Linux by the industry was also put to rest in the seminar with Intel and Oracle
confirming their long-term commitment and plans for Linux.
The point that was driven home by the senior Red Hat officials is that Linux
is a viable alternative to proprietary solutions and it ushers in a new degree
of security, scalability and reliability to the enterprises' IT
infrastructure. The seminar also talked about the growing acceptability of Linux
on the desktop side. The evolution of Linux from a loosely arranged set of codes
to a more stable and tightly knit robust operating system for the enterprises is
mainly due to the efforts players like Red Hat has put in over the years.
Overall, the huge turnout and the Linux success stories amply evidenced that
Penguin will very soon become a major force in operating the systems worldwide.
