IP Sec v/s SSL VPN

IPSec VPNs require client software installation and not all client operating systems support it / No client software is required as HTTP clients such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Communicator and Mozilla are bundled with all leading operating systems.

Connectivity of IPSec VPNs can be adversely affected by firewalls between the client and gateway / Not affected by firewalls and operate transparently across proxy devices.

IPSec VPN connectivity gets impacted by Network Address Translation (NAT) or Proxy devices between the client and the gateway / No such known issues.

Since IPSec VPN client tunnels into an organization’s network, it becomes an ideal target to hackers / Data exchange happens through authentication by using public keys like RSA, DSA and assures more data integrity.

More suited for site-to-site connectivity/A cost effective remote access solution.
