With the Indian IT-BPO industry growing by leaps and bounds, expected to cross the $60 bn mark in exports by 2010, India has now emerged as the most preferred outsourcing destination. With the growth, there is now an urgent need to develop new IT-BPO cities and tap the hitherto unused talent pool of knowledge workers.

The government of Gujarat along with Nasscom has been working towards the creation of a conducive environment for the IT and BPO companies in the state. Integrated IT policy, state-of-the-art infrastructure development and a strong focus towards human capital development are some of the steps taken by the government. The government with support from Nasscom has conceptualized IT Summit 2006 to enable industry leaders and entrepreneurs to arrive at a common forum.

"Gujarat has a robust economy, encompassing both industry and service. With its natural and man-made advantages, it is climbing the ladder of prosperity, benefiting people in all walks of life. Hence it makes strong business sense to be in Gujarat."
Narendra Modi,
Chief Minister, Gujarat

The summit would enable the participants and potential investors to discuss reasons to invest in Gujarat and how the Gujarat government can partner with the industry. The event with presentations and panel discussions will provide a platform to identify and unravel opportunities in the IT sector in the State.

Gujarat Government's commitment to promote socio-economic and industrial development is clear from the fact that the State has emerged as India's most preferred destination for investments as per the latest figures of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). Gujarat has also clocked one of the highest GDP growths amongst Indian states and is working towards replicating its success across industries in the IT domain.

The state provides ideal environment for the IT and BPO industry to scale new heights. Drivers include a business friendly atmosphere as well as relatively lower costs of real estate and manpower. HR advantages stem from high education standards, better productivity and the country's lowest BPO attrition rate. Besides, it also scores pretty high on the infrastructure front-with nearly 100% power and connectivity uptime. All this translates into shorter lead and delivery time for projects. No wonder, more than 50 BPO outfits are reaping the benefits of starting operations here.
