In Defense of the CIO
The CIOL C-Change 2007 held in Goa focused on the changing face of customers and how organizations were grappling to manage them in a better and efficient way

The CIOL C-Change 2007 was jointly organized by CIOL and Dataquest in Goa in February. The business technology forum in its fourth edition, was inaugurated by E Abraham Mathew, president, CIOL David Nishball, joint president, Airtel (Enterprise Services), Avijit Basu, country marketing manager (Technology Solutions Group), HP India and Anil Kumar R, senior VP, CIOL at the Park Hyatt in Goa.

Mathew dwelt on the evolution of the event, saying: "CIOL C-Change has evolved into the premier CIO gathering in the whole of India. Hosting over 100 CIOs from different industry verticals, the event has remained true to its essence, a learned gathering of industry technologists and decision makers deliberating on the course to the future."

Alok Shende, vice president (ICT), Frost&Sullivan, who was the keynote speaker for the inaugural day, spoke on the evolving consumer scenario. Nishball, on his first week of job at Bharti Airtel, brought the global perspective on how the needs and demands of the CIOs across the globe had changed.

Strategic Enabler
The day started with an keynote address on 'Segmentation and Differentiation' by B Sambamurthy, chairman and MD, Corporation Bank. He emphasized that the role of the CIO today has changed and he needs to be not only IT savvy but also business savvy. Speaking at the session, Consumer Ecosystem-Capturing Consumer Behavior within the Family and Societal Ecosystem, Vinay Gopinath, head (marketing), TTK Prestige said that insight generation is the key to capture consumer behavior.

Speaking at the session-80:20 Conundrum, Identifying and Keeping Profitable Customers, Vijay Srinivasan, COO (West), Airtel Enterprise Services, commented that the CIO today is an integral think tank, who acted as the backbone of operations of organizations.

Delivering a keynote on 'Business Compliance in a Globalized Economy', Pradeep Gupta, publisher and managing director, CyberMedia India, said that since business risks are far greater today than before, the onus is on the CIO to gear up and respond to those challenges. Rajiv Mehta, managing director, Puma India, delivered an interesting address on Beyond Boundaries-Partnering for New Markets, Customers and Products.

Communicate, Share and Connect
Prasanto Kumar Roy, group editor, Dataquest Group, CyberMedia, dwelt on the very contemporary theme of blogging. Deep Kalra, managing director, MakeMyTrip.com, speaking at a session on Web 2.0, said that the new mantra is to communicate, share and connect!

The final day ended with a keynote session by Shyam Malhotra, chief editor, CyberMedia, on how to use the power of the web within the organization.
