The tenth edition, Bangalore IT.in 2007, a four-day IT and
telecom annual event, witnessed participants from 125 companies and
representatives from 20 countries and 17 Indian states. This years event was
held from October 29 to November 1.
The event, which was inaugurated by Rameshwar Thanur, Governor,
Karnataka, was initiated by the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of
Karnataka, STPI, Bangalore, and CyberMedia Events (a division of CyberMedia). An
IT finishing school was also launched on the occasion.
Union IT secretary, Jainender Singh, in his keynote address
stated that the Indian IT industry should concentrate on cutting costs and
moving up the value chain in order to fight the effects of a rising rupee
against the dollar.

The topics discussed were:
product and services at the bottom of the pyramid, fostering innovative
thinking, markets beyond India, opportunities in non-IT services/content
services, embedded software, business IT infrastructure, industry academia
collaboration, product engineering, security and storage, quality, systems
software, emerging market, attrition and talent acquisition, wireless
infrastructure, software services, application software and finance
ecosystem to name a few. |
Pradeep Gupta, CMD, CyberMedia group, said that over the years
the conference has attracted the interest of various ICT enterprises, SMEs, and
technocrats. According to MN Vidyashankar, IT Secretary, Government of
Karnataka, "The event, which comprised exhibition and concurrent
conferences, showcased Bangalore as the ICT gateway to Asia. Delegations from
Australia, Britain, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Russia,
Singapore, and Taiwan were among the international participants who explored
their business opportunities at the fair.
"Corporates should build an innovative business model to
provide services for 80% of the population that is at the bottom of the
pyramid," said BL Parthasarthy, MD, Krishna Bhima Samrudhi Bank (Basix
Group), Hyderabad, Sivakumar, chief executive, ITC, International Business
Division, Secunderabad: "This is where ICT comes in, to provide virtual
agriculture, real-time information management, multimedia capabilities, remote
sensing virtualization. There is a need to devise a business model to address
this market at an affordable price."
Debesh Das, minister-in-charge, Information Technology, West
Bengal, informed of the governments plan to set up an India Design Center,
which will provide the entire ecosystem for the VLSI industry in one integrated
building.
In a bid to become the No. 1 IT destination by 2010, the Tamil
Nadu government has laid a three-point agenda to provide congenial environment
for IT/ITeS companies, said C Umashankar, MD, Electronic Corporation of Tamil
Nadu (Elcot). "Around 2,340 acres of government land across the state has
been earmarked for development of IT industries, and Rs 100 crore has been
allocated to Elcot for infrastructure development," he added.
A rural IT Quiz was also conducted as part of the event where
about 12 lakh students from tier-2 and tier 3 cities participated.
