Autodesk Certification
Autodesk has launched its professional certification program in India. The
program enables design engineering students and professionals to certify their
proficiency at an Autodesk Certification Center across 135 locations in India.
The certifications are currently being offered for Autodesk products in
architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) and manufacturing domains. The
products include AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite, Civil
3D and Autodesk Inventor Professional (AIP).
NIIT Announces TOEIC Test
NIIT has announced its first Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
test in the country on September 28, 2008 across Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai,
Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. TOEIC test is a global standard
for communicative English ability in the international workplace and is part of
Educational Testing Service suite of products. The initiative is aimed to
enhance employability and provide competitive advantage to Indian organizations
in the global market place.
Bihar Flood Relief Campaign
As a part of its social responsibility, the Bihar IT Association has
initiated a Flood Relief Contribution Fund to offer aids and rehabilitation to
the flood-hit victims in Bihar. The association members have contributed largely
to the fund and are seeking public help to carry forward their mission. BITA is
already running a small relief camp at Rupwati Girls High School at Saharsa,
wherein around 1,000 persons has been sheltered.
Wipro Wins Intel Award
Wipro Infotech has won the Intel Global Innovation Award for Storage at the
Intel Developer Forum 2008 in San Francisco held recently. In its state-of-art
product engineering and development cell based on the Intel platform, Wipro has
developed, integrated, tested and certified on leading industry storage
practices for supporting file share protocol services over IP. The award was
given for its NetPower Storage Server developed through this R&D process.
Intel Connecting Bilion Indians
Intel India has launched an industry-wide movement called the Connected
Indians where the government, industry associations and private enterprise have
come together for the common cause of connecting a billion Indians. The movement
is intended to mobilize people, resources and infrastructure to connect citizens
to information, ideas, people, capital and services leading to overall
development and future success. Various industry bodies like MAIT, CII, Assocham
and the WiMax Forum have endorsed this movement.
Secure Computing Wins IDC Crown
Secure Computing has been named the worldwide market leader for Web security
appliances by leading market research firm IDC. New data within the August 2008
IDC report, "Worldwide Web Security 2008-12 Forecast and 2007 Vendor Shares"
shows that Secure Computing owns 11% of the worldwide Web security appliance
market. According to IDC, Secure Computing gained leadership due to its ability
to offer a complete portfolio of Web Gateway Security appliances against Web 2.0
threats
IT Inspiration Awards by HDS
Hitachi Data Systems recently launched the first annual IT Inspiration
Awards that recognize and rewards the best in technology deployment from across
the Asia-Pacific region. The awards commenced in August this year and the public
voting for the award recipients closes on October 17, 2008. The winners will be
selected through a mix of public voting and a judging panel comprising qualified
judges from Hitachi, IDC and Gartner.
GurukulOnline to Offer CFP Certification
GurukulOnline Learning Solutions has become the first company in the country to
offer online training for Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification. As an
accredited education provider of Financial Planning Standards Board, India,
GurukulOnline will offer the CFP certification course at an introductory price

PC Sales Cross 2 mn Units
MAIT has recently announced the findings of its Quarterly Industry Performance
Review for the AMJ quarter of FY 2008-09. PC sales including desktops and
notebooks have crossed 2 mn (20 lakh) units registering a growth of 17% compared
to last fiscal. Notebooks and servers witnessed high growth while growth in
desktop continued to remain marginal. Despite pressure on domestic economy, the
market for IT consumption remains positive and sales in the second quarter are
expected to be steady.
Googles Internet Safety Campaign
Google India has launched the second innings of its nationwide Internet safety
campaign, Be NetSmart, in collaboration with the government and local law
enforcement authorities. Launched in Chennai on August 2008, its now initiated
in schools across Kolkata and New Delhi. During the Be NetSmart Week campaigns
in Chennai and Kolkata, Google employee volunteers and police authorities
visited English, Tamil and Bengali medium schools and reached nearly 11,140
students, 90 teachers, and 17 schools.
Germany Beckons Indian Companies
The Mayor of FrankfurtRhineMain Dr HC Petra Roth has announced several sops
and facilities to Indian companies to set-up their businesses in this region of
Germany. The mayor was on an official visit with the deputy mayor, city
officials, business representatives and successful Indian business from the
region. The delegation visited Bangalore and Mumbai to promote the
FrankfurtRhineMain region as a sought after business destination.
