Motorola Wins LEEDR
The Indian Green Buildings Council has awarded Motorolas manufacturing
facility in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, with the Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design Silver certification. LEEDR is the global benchmark system
for designing and constructing the worlds greenest buildings. Motorola is
considered to be the first factory in India to receive the certification.
HCL Counter Bids for Axon
HCL Technologies has announced that it has made a counter bid to Infosys
bid by raising the offer by 8.3% to seal the biggest overseas deal by an Indian
firm in this space. HCL Technologies has made an offer of 650 pence per share
compared to Infosys offer of 600 pence announced earlier. This values Axon at
$810.8 mn.
IBM Leads IT Services
IBM announced recently that it has retained its leadership in the India
domestic IT services market. According to a survey conducted by IDC India, IBM
has registered a market share of 9.6% for calendar year 2007. The leadership was
driven by significant, large-scale business transformation engagements.
SME Contribution to GDP
As per Assocham, the SMEs contribution to national GDP is projected to go
up by a minimum of 5% and touch 22% share of Indias GDP by 2012. Over 55% of
SMEs are aggressively upgrading themselves technologically to reduce their input
costs and increase production and exports, which is a key factor for this
growth. Currently, SMEs share in national GDP is measured around 17%.
Comat Secures Rs 60 cr
Comat Technologies has received an investment of Rs 60 crore from Omidyar
Network and the Unitus Equity Fund. The investment will enable Comat to expand
to new states, accelerate service delivery for training and financial services,
strengthen management bandwidth, and enhance its brand.
Transcend Tops Market
According to the latest report by IDC India, Transcend has topped in flash
memory products including USB flash drives and flash cards in 2007, followed by
Kingston and Sandisk. The Indian flash drive market in particular was dominated
by Transcend last year, and contributed 4% of Transcends global revenue in
2007.
Geodesic Re-christened
Geodesic Information Systems has recently announced that the companys
shareholders, board of directors, and the central government approved the name
change to Geodesic Limited. Its a software company focusing on content,
communication, and collaboration space across desktops and mobile devices and
has a strong global presence.
Avaya Leader in UC Market
Avaya GlobalConnect has topped the Unified Communications (UC) market in
India. According to IDCs India Unified Communications Market Program, Avaya
enjoyed a market share of 29% of the total estimated UC market in India of $ 390
mn in CY 2007. Voice (including IP telephony) contributed the maximum proportion
of approximately 73% of this market, followed by conferencing, messaging, and
calendaring.

Several Harassment Committee at Infotek
Venture Infotek has implemented a policy on Sexual Harassment Redress. This
policy will be applied to all employees of Venture Infotek whether permanent,
temporary, full-time, part-time or outsourced employees in all their offices in
India. It has formed a Sexual Harassment Redressal Committee (SHRC) for their
female employees to address their complaints, which will be addressed within
seven working days.
Nasscom launches Social Innovation Honours
Nasscom Foundation is pioneering the Social Innovation Honors to recognize
excellence and encourage innovation in social development initiatives. The
annual honors aim to showcase projects that demonstrate best practices through
exemplary use of ICT in areas of social transformation. The jury comprises
Narayana Murthy, Jaithirth Rao, Kiran Mazumdar and Kiran Karnik. The winners of
the honors will be announced at Nasscoms India Leadership Summit in February
2009.
EA Sued Over Anti-piracy Software
A Californian-based game fan has sued Electronic Arts for its controversial
decision to bundle digital rights-management software in its new game, Spore.
She says it would limit the number of computers on which users can be installed.
As per the allegation, EA did not disclose the critical details about the
anti-piracy software, SecuROM, which is secretly installed to the command and
control center of the computer. Consumers cant uninstall the software without
reformatting their hard drive.
YouTube Launches In My Name
YouTube, Will.i.am, and renowned nonprofit organizations like Oxfam, GCAP,
Save the children and comic Relief have launched a special channel on YouTube
titled In My Name. This initiative is part of its global efforts to raise
awareness around the UN Millennium Development Goals. Till November 1, 2008,
users can visit www.youtube.com/inmyname to upload a video stating their name,
home country, and a simple message for their government about the need to meet
the MDGs.
Ciscos Human Network Campaign
Cisco unveiled the second phase of its Welcome to the Human Network brand
campaign, called The Human Network Effect in India. The corporate brand
campaign is targeted at customers, partners and employees. Supported with a week
of interactive events, marketing activities and product launches to introduce
the next phase of the campaign, this is Ciscos first-ever marketing campaign in

IBM Files for Patent
IBM has filed a patent application in India for its newly developed portable
personal computing environment server. It has also applied for patent in some
other parts of the globe. Accepting the application, the Controller General of
Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, has issued a notice its recent journal seeking
public opinion on the application. The US authorities and the World Intellectual
Property Organization have already granted patent license to IBM for it.
Aptech Starts Campus2Career
To chisel the talent of the youths who are eager to take up a challenging
career and graduate into accomplished professionals, Aptech, in association with
Italys Seven Rings International, has launched C2C (Campus2Career) training
program. The program will be primarily focusing on the development of soft
skills and essential computer knowledge to make job aspirants more employable.
Seven Rings has developed the courseware for the two-month personalized training

Wall Street Awards TCS
Tata Consultancy Services has won award from The Wall Street Journal. The
renowned publication has selected TCS mKrishi service as the winner of its 2008
Technology Innovation Award in the wireless technology category. mKrishi, a
wireless Agri-advisory Service helps farmers throughout rural India to have
better access to information through a cell phone application. It has been
developed to provide personalized information and expert advice to rural farmers
in their local language using sensor technology.
