IBM to Invest in Mobile Research
IBM announced its plans to shift $100 mn investment over the next five years into a major research effort that aims to advance mobile services and capabilities for businesses and consumers worldwide. Through this effort, IBM is aiming to drive new intelligence into the underpinnings of the mobile web to create new efficiencies in business operations and peoples daily lives.

Four Soft Records Increase in Revenue
Four Soft, reported its consolidated financial results for the quarter and FY 09. The company reported a PAT of Rs 44.72 crore while the operating revenues totaled up to Rs 194.59 crore for FY 09, an increase of 13.44% as compared to Rs 171.53 crore in FY 08.

Nvidia Extends Discounts
Nvidia announced that the substantial discount currently being offered on its Tesla C1060 computing processor will be extended to July 24, 2009. Under this promotion, the Tesla C1060, usually priced at $1299 Ex-Works, can be bought for $650 Ex-Works/Rs 39,000 + VAT.

Softlink Adds New Clients
Softlink Logistic Systems added more than forty-five new clients in the past quarter. New accounts signed have companies like GAC Shipping, Sainath Forwarders, Longulf Trading, Cargomar, Leader Electricals, Daga Air Agents, and Jai Narayana Shipping, amongst others.

Layoffs Cost Yahoo! $27mn
Yahoo! said it will incur $22 mn to $27 mn in restructuring charges in the current quarter to account for previously announced layoffs of 5% of its staff. The Internet company detailed the charges in a regulatory filing, two months after CEO Carol Bartz announced plans to cut nearly 700 jobs. Yahoo! said at the time that it wasnt able to estimate the total charges due to the layoffs.

Facebooks Personalized URL
Facebook, which recently announced a new feature enhancement to the site that enables users to personalize their URL, said more than 3 mn people registered user names in the first twelve hours after this social networking site offered members, the chance to claim a personalized Internet address.

Syntek Expects Profits
Three consecutive years of losses have forced camera chip maker Syntek Semiconductor look at a more fruitful future and results seem to be coming about. The company said it expects business operations to make a return to profits in year 2009. The positive outlook is based on the added demand for white-box DSCs and notebook webcams.

TCS Loses e-Governance Deal
Sukhdeo Thorat, chairman of UGC is in dock for allegedly favoring Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in the bidding process for its e-governance project. The matter has now reached the Prime Ministers Office, which has sought a report from the Ministry. It said a vigilance inquiry has found several irregularities in the tendering process of UGCs Rs 225 crore e-governance project. UGC is reportedly planning to invite TCS for a second round of bidding for the project.

Yodlee Receives Red Herring 100 Award
Yodlee, the banking solutions provider, has been selected amongst the elite winners of the Red Herring 100, an award given to the most promising technology ventures in North America every year. Red Herring 100 is considered as an instrument to discover and advocate the promising startups that will lead the next wave of disruption and innovation.

Security Software to Grow at 9%
Worldwide security software market revenue totaled $13.5 bn in 2008, an increase of 18.6% from 2007 revenue of $11.3 bn. According to the analysts there was an increasing demand for appliance based products, particularly within certain segments such as email security and secure web gateway markets. In 2009, it is predicted that the security software market will show signs of slowdown but will continue to grow at around 9%.

Wipro Receives UN Award
Wipro has been awarded the Habitat Business Award for sustainable urbanization by the UN. It said to be the only Indian company among the five award winning firms and that bagged the award for Leed Certification. Wipro has got this award for outstanding achievements contributing to sustainable urbanization through corporate responsible practices.

WNS Wins Golden Peacock Award
The World Environment Foundation, in association with the Institute of Directors, has awarded WNS, a provider of global business process outsourcing (BPO) services, with the 2009 Golden Peacock Eco Innovation Award for its Green Lean Sigma program. The award is designed to improve productivity and quality in organizations. It aims to promote business excellence by providing a framework or for assessment that is based on similar principles as other awards throughout the world.

IBM Daksh Awarded
IBM Daksh has been recognized as the 2009 contact center outsourcing service provider of the year in Asia Pacific by Frost & Sullivan. It has won this award for the fourth consecutive year. The company was evaluated and benchmarked against other leading BPO service providers across the region.

SAS Still a Leader
For the fifth consecutive year, SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, continued its reign as the leader, by Chartis Research in its Operational Risk Management Systems 2009 report. Since 2005, Chartis has positioned SAS OpRisk Management in the top spot for completeness of offering and market share potential.

Avaya UC Gets Security Certification
Avaya, a global provider of business communications systems, announced that its Unified Communications solution has been certified for its security capabilities through the Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluation. Common Criteria is a globally recognized industry certification that sets standards for IT security and validates products according to these standards through rigorous, independent evaluation.

Satyam Honored by ASTD
Satyam, now known as Mahindra Satyam has received honors for continued quest for excellence from American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). Satyam has been chosen for this award because of its excellence in talent preparation services and practice citations.
