It's one year since CyberMedia Dice was launched. How was the first year for you?
The year that has gone by has been very exciting for CyberMedia Dice. Although we were the new kid on the block, we were able to differentiate ourselves by donning the role of a specialist. With the focus that we have on the technology sector, we were successful in offering an exclusive platform of technology professionals. To the recruiters and HR managers we have given the most qualified candidates who fit in  their job requirement. The first year also offered us plenty of learning, some good and some not so good.  The experience gained will be put to good effect as we gear up for this year.

How is the online recruitment market evolving in India?
Today the online job board market is estimated to be around Rs150 crore and is expected to grow by 50% y-o-y for the next couple of years at least.  The reason for this growth is that more seekers and recruiters are actually experiencing the benefits of online job boards. It is not that they are not using what they were doing earlier.

Other traditional forms of recruitments such as print, consultants, and referrals will continue to be used. But there is a very strong value proposition in the online job boards-more efficiency, flexibility, dynamism, and, most importantly, cost saving. In a booming job market it will become harder to attract high caliber tech talent. Hence, recruiters will turn to specialized sites that are industry focused.

Can you share some of your plans for the current fiscal (2006-07)?
That is easy to answer. Our plans can be summed up in one word- growth. We are looking at the current fiscal as a period of high growth. Through the growth we will become extremely relevant for the audience that we address. We have already launched a pan India outdoor campaign emphasizing our value propositions. We have an aggressive marketing plan and we will be using various media platforms to help us grow.

In India, CyberMedia Dice competes with some of the established online job portals such as Naukri, Jobstreet, etc. How are you looking at the competition?
All of us are operating in a growth market like India and furthermore, in a growth segment such as online job boards. There is space for all of us. The other players in the market have told us that we bring a lot of relevance.  We have a healthy respect for others and see ourselves fulfilling the role of a specialist to the hilt. So in that sense due to our specialization, we are not competing against, but competing with horizontal job board such as Naukri, Jobstreet, etc.  With the positioning that CyberMedia Dice has, we are confident that we will emerge as leaders in our category.

How important are assessments in recruitments?
The issue that most recruiters face today is the large number of resume one gets when a job ad is placed irrespective of the medium.  Other problems include irrelevant resumes, multiple mailing by the same candidate, fake resumes, and many more.  While we cannot wish away these issues  with the stroke of a wand, assessments will help as a screening tool.  Assessments would help in saving time, reduceing cost, and giving immediate results using which a recruiter can get the right candidate on board within the given time frame. However, recruiters are having a tough time in getting job aspirants to take the assessment.

Has Dice's buy-out by General Atlantic and Quadrangle affected the CyberMedia-Dice tie-up?
In fact, the effect can only be positive. General Atlantic has a major presence in India through its portfolio companies. They will be supportive to us. CyberMedia Dice operates in India, which is one of the fastest growing technology markets. Growth in India is great news and both partners are committed to make that happen.
