TCS Bags 60 mn Contract
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has signed an eight-year end-to-end IT applications services contract with Scottish Water, worth an estimated 60 mn. The new contract, while delivering an extended level of service, will also save Scottish Water a minimum of 8 mn in operating expenditure alone over the next eight years. Scottish Water serves 5.5 mn customers in Scotland with water and wastewater services.

Oneic Hits Deal with TTS
Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (Oneic) has hit a deal with Towell-TAKE Solutions (TTS) for updating its fleet of handheld computers (HHCs) used to read electricity and water meters across Oman.

Consensus on Wafers
Intel, Samsung Electronics, and TSMC have announced that they have reached an agreement on the need for industry-wide collaboration to target a transition to larger, 450mm-sized wafers, starting in 2012. The transition to larger wafers will enable continued growth of the semiconductor industry and help maintain a reasonable cost structure for future integrated circuit manufacturing and applications.

CSC Extends Nortel Deal
Computer Sciences Corporation has extended its IT outsourcing agreement with Nortel by two years. Under the terms of the agreement, CSC will continue to provide applications support and IT call center services to Nortels global user community. These services leverage CSCs World Sourcing delivery centers from around the globe to provide Nortel with a high-quality, low-cost solution.

Oxigen Partners, Kwality Walls
Oxigen Services India has announced its association with Kwality Walls for Cornettos summer campaign: the Scratch & Win. This is one of the first tie-ups between a consumer brand like Kwality Walls and a technology solution provider like Oxigen to bring in an innovative consumer program.

TCS Renews Contract with Virgin
Tata Consultancy Services has confirmed that it has renewed its managed services contract with the Virgin Atlantic airline. By entrusting the management of its IT infrastructure and applications management to TCS, Virgin Atlantic will now be focusing on its core business activities and flex with the future challenges of the international airline industry.

Qualcomm Fabrication Plant in Taoyuan
Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, Cheng Uei Precision Industry, and Foxlink, a leading developer and manufacturer of communications devices, computers and consumer electronics, have announced an agreement to bring a new, dedicated fabrication plant to Lungtans Science Park in Taoyuan, Taiwan, to manufacture Qualcomms next generation mirasol displays. The fabrication plant is slated to be fully operational in 2009. The collaboration solidifies Qualcomm MEMS Technologies strategy to support volume demands for future mirasol displays.

Toshiba, JSW to Market Turbines
Toshiba and JSW, one of Indias well-known business groups, have agreed to establish a joint venture company to manufacture and market super-critical steam turbines and generators for thermal power plants in India. Under the terms of the agreement, Toshiba and JSW will establish a joint venture in June 2008. The new company will have an initial capitalization of $50 mn, 75% held by Toshiba Group and 25% by two group companies of JSW Group5% by JSW Steel and 20% by JSW Energy. The companies are now deciding the location of the headquarters and manufacturing facilities, and will announce the details in due course.

BT to Manage WAN for Thomson Reuters
BT has announced that it has signed an agreement with Thomson Reuters to manage the WAN (wide area network) element of its internal IT infrastructure in an eight-year outsourcing deal. BT will transform Thomson Reuters existing WAN into a high-speed, IP-based global infrastructure that will encompass 323 locations across 100 countries including six applications hosting data centers. This win follows a 10-year-plus deal BT reached with Reuters in 2005 to transform and manage the global network.
