Institute of Management Technology or IMT as it now popularly known as was
founded nearly 23 years ago in the city of Ghaziabad, about 40 km east of New
Delhi. Ghaziabad has always been popular for notoriety and now boasts to be the
abode of this institute that has grown from strength to strength in last two
decades.
While IMT is regarded as a business school and has over the years
consistently ranked high is several surveys, its MCA program too enjoys a fair
deal of recognition in the industry.
The institute started the MCA program in 1986 with a class size of 30
students. Today the program runs to accommodate 90 students. The applicant must
go through a three-tier process before being finally admitted to the institute.
"The written test followed by the group discussion and personal interview
ensures that we are able to select the right candidate for the program,"
says Prof. BB Mathur, Chairman (Student Affairs) at IMT.
Delivering to the Industry
IMT claims to be the only institute in the country that offers MCA with the
option of specializing in either databases or Internet technologies or
information security. "Two years ago, we had a vision that the need for
domain specific professionals will see a jump and now we have converted that
vision into an offering for the industry," says Prof. Sanjeev Gupta,
Chairman (PGDCA Program). Explains Prof. Gupta that armed with a specialization,
a pass-out can be immediately assigned a project. And this proves a boon for the
small and mid-sized companies as they don’t have to spend on further
retraining the graduate are taken care of.
Over and above the specialization, integrated within the program are IBM,
Cisco and other industry recognized certifications. "The institute funds
the students to get the certifications," adds Prof. Gupta.

The academic council for the course sits and confers every year to review and
change the curriculum. And this exercise year on year leads to the addition of
new courses that equip the students with the latest technologies. "We have
ensured that the students walking out of IMT have a comfort level with
technologies and platforms of tomorrow," adds Prof. Gupta.
And it is this very approach that lends the program certain recognition from
the recruiters. Prof. Gupta helped place all the 88 students who will pass out
in July 2004, a year earlier in July 2003. And of this HP picked up 22 students
en mass. And come July 2004, he is confident that the class of 2005 will be
placed within a week.

The institute works very closely with certain companies on research projects.
The list includes organizations like Polaris, CSC, R Systems, TCS, ST
Microelectronics and so on. The institute has taken an innovative approach to
help recruiters combat attrition. Rather than the recruiter and candidate
signing a bond, the institute signs a bond with the students to ensure that they
stay back in the company for a minimum of one year.
The institute has erected a campus in Nagpur and will offer both its flagship
business management and computer applications programs from there too. Page(s) 1
