RIM is gaining in BFSI, retail, and manufacturing

What are the various trends in the RIM space?
The remote infrastructure management (RIM) market is growing at an accelerated pace with CIOs across the world realizing the many benefits this model provides. The first trend that is catching traction is around the maturity of Indian service providers to deliver full sourcing scope of engagements. The entry of Indian infrastructure management services (IMS) vendors in the global space was marked by a tilt toward discreet outsourcing, wherein they managed discreet components of the IT infrastructure, like network and security.

Secondly, we are seeing the asset-light model of sourcing gaining significant traction. A recent report by Everest, a leading analyst group, has acknowledged the disruption in the IMS market resulting out of the shift from asset-heavy to asset-light deals.

Thirdly, the utility-based model making an entry into the IMS mid-market has created waves. The utility model allows a customer to pay on a per-application user basis with the whole package downwards including IT infrastructure management, software licenses, etc.

Which verticals are fueling the demand for RIM in India?
Although RIM is gaining traction across industries and verticals, the main verticals fueling the demand for RIM are banking and insurance, manufacturing, pharma, retail, and hi-tech.

RIM is a very big global market abroad. What growth prospects do you see for Indian IT services companies?
As I mentioned earlier, the Indian IT services companies have evolved their offerings to deliver the entire gamut of IT services management. Though a significant portion of enterprises in India continues to subscribe to the discreet model (outsourcing remote networking and security management), the move to full services sourcing has begun to attract large enterprises.

According to you, which are the various service lines that could fuel the growth of RIM in India?
While network and security continue to be the hot RIM components, large Indian enterprises have also started looking at server/data center management, data lifecycle management, and managed disaster recovery (BCP) services.
