How has the acquisition of NuView benefited Brocade? Are you looking at more acquisitions in the files networks?
Brocade was looking at growth in new areas and channels. With the acquisition of NuView, a Houston-based provider of software solutions for enterprise file data management, we can now offer services and solution in both blocks and files management networks. The acquisition very well compliments our family of solutions. For the global enterprises, it will be like a one stop shop. Our endeavor remains to help enterprise customers lower their costs and improve efficiencies for data center and remote office management. NuView provides a family of standards-based enterprise file management products used by more than 400 enterprise customers. Coming back to NuView's acquisition, the company also benefits at the macro level as it gets a stronger distribution channel.

What are the key focus areas for Brocade in the year ahead?
Tapestry range of solutions driven by name space, security and managing tear of storage will be our primary focus. The goal is to build unique software solutions in the global name space that has the end user and the IT benefit. Security solutions is another crucial area, one has to focus on. Indian companies don't realize that the biggest security threat they have is not from the outside but internally. The problem will be bigger in India as it grapples with issues like retention, confidentiality, etc.

Primary storage is approximately 25% more expensive than secondary storage. As the number of files goes up, we look at creating a secondary storage network. We want to deliver better technologies in these spaces.

Can you throw some light on the emerging trends in the storage space?
Bringing the cost of operation down is the latest trend, which is being seen. Personally, I feel there is a trend towards simplification of the network management. Industry is looking for solutions as to how they can reduce cost, even as the IT budget does not go up enormously. Most players want to make one time investment with longer benefits.
