As the next in line to the CIO, Shiv Shankar Datta has his hands full,
handling IT-related queries and managing the vast IT infrastructure of Honda
Motors.

Although Datta has been involved with several projects during his stint at
Honda, the Honda Supplier Collaboration Portal (HSCP) is a project closest to
his heart. It was designed to improve the efficiency of all purchasing business
processes and making them capable of handling multiple models and higher volume
production.
Right from the conceptualization stage, Datta was actively involved in
understanding the business situation, planning a solution for the same, and
finally in the execution as well. As one of the most critical aspects of any
project implementation, convincing the management was a difficult task; and
Datta was one of the key people involved in selling the concept to the
management for approval to go ahead with the project. Post implementation, the
interlinking between HSCP and Honda Systems created error-free transactions
between HSCI and the supplier.
As a firm believer in being hands-on along with his IT team, Datta as the IT
Project leader was also involved in the final rollout stage of HSCP.
