Allsec Technologies, a Chennai-based BPO, has come a long way,
making to the top 10 on the eSAT list. Employee satisfaction levels are higher
on parameters like salary hikes, and, the company paid at par with industry
standards, which are its key strengths. But the parameter, exciting growth
opportunities, got lower scores. Allsec attributes this to the perception some
of the newcomers have.
Says R Vaithiyanathan, SVP, Operations and HR, Allsec
Technologies, "It is surprising, as we are known for grooming leaders from
within. For instance, 280 employees who have joined as agents over the years
have taken senior leadership positions in the company in no time. I attribute
our lower points on growth opportunities to the perception some of the new
employees have, which is mainly due to the slightly lesser pace of growth as
compared to previous years. This is more of an overall industry trend."
Allsec also believes that its compensation methodology is
unique. For instance, employees get salary hikes every six months, which is not
linked to performance. Additionally, the company has separate performance-based
incentives. Thus, all employees, by default, get salary hikes every six months
and this has had a positive impact on retention and employee satisfaction.
The company has also made its HR processes very transparent
through an Intranet portal, which clearly aligns every employees deliverables
and expectations. Any deliverables not met will be highlighted and it will also
suggest what is required and how to achieve it. This makes for intelligent HR
management.

The companys main retention strategy lies in providing tenure
bonus that has given it an edge over others in this industry. Moreover, exit
interviews and separation procedures provide a source of information in terms of
understanding and overcoming defects in the system. Says Vaithiyanathan,
"Since the person who leaves the organization is also the companys brand
ambassador, it has always been a great source for us in terms of attracting and
retaining talent through word of mouth."
Taking a closer look at the survey, it shows that Allsec needs
to communicate more effectively to the newcomers about growth opportunities and
customized career paths available to them within the company. It also needs to
more effectively capture employee feedback and be more open to their suggestions
and ideas. With a large pool of employees, it would be a tough task; but this
will further boost the employee satisfaction levels. For Allsec, salary is a
major employee satisfaction area. But, after a point of time, employees look for
other intangible aspects of growth. So, in the future, the biggest challenge for
Allsec would be to retain talent at the entry and middle levels. Page(s) 1
