Wipro continues to be one of the largest employers in the
industry, with more than 16,000 employees. The survey results show that the
company has done well on the issue of growth opportunities in the companythe
employees feel that the growth opportunities are exciting.
This, Mythily Ramesh, senior vice president, Product Management
Solution, Wipro BPO, attributes to a clear-cut career path mechanism that has
been put in place to help agents to work in different processes for various
companies or grow between processes with one client. For instance, an agent can
move from technical help desk to providing high-end infrastructure services to
customers. In terms of growth opportunities within the back office work,
employees get to work in areas as diverse as F&A, procurement, and HR.
Wipro BPO has also come out strongly on the parameter of the
company putting high value on honesty and integrity.
The companys corporate governance initiatives have also found
favor with Wipro employees, where it fares ahead of some of its competitors.
This has been possible due to the strategy, "talk and implement",
wherein the heads of risk, quality, and innovation ensure the functioning of the
organization according to defined set of principles.

But on the issue of compensation, Wipro BPO fares poorly as
compared to its competitors. Employees felt that the company was a bad paymaster
vis--vis others, and does not give good hikes, a point countered by a Wipro
BPO spokesperson. According to Ramesh, "We are at 75 percentile when it
comes to compensation and not below 50, and it all depends on job content,
career path, etc." The hike, according to Mythily, ranges between 12 to
14%, which is as per the industry average.
Ramesh also says that the company has taken several steps to
structure the compensation in the best possible way, keeping the tax structure
in mind.
In one of the surveys conducted by Wipro to find out the reasons
why people leave an organization, it zeroed on three primary reasons, namely,
going for higher education, no clear cut career path, and attitude of
supervisors. Wipro BPO has tried to address the issue of arresting the exodus
due to educational reasons, by tying up with institutes like BITS, Pilani and
Symbiosis.
Some of the initiatives Wipro BPO took during the last
one-and-a-half years include "Josh", which was aimed at engaging
employees to showcase their talent. Another initiative was the "Voice of
Wipro Survey", an internal survey aimed at getting first-hand feedback from
employees about various issues.
The company has also taken an initiative to bridge the
communication gap between the agent-level employees and those in higher
positions, by introducing the concept of "Floor Walking". Page(s) 1
