Aegis is one of the few BPOs to have created a healthy balance between its international and domestic operations. While its success can be attributed to the companys robust inorganic growth strategy, it started off with an edge in creating a strong onshore presence as the rest of the industry was looking elsewhere. The company has been acquiring at least one new entity every quarter since it roped in Global Vantage in 2007. As a result, from just 7,000 employees a couple of years ago, it has today grown to 32,000 employees globally. Last year, one of Aegis key focus areas was to consolidate and integrate its ever-growing workforce, and seamlessly merge the acquired companies into a single entity.

As a first step toward integration, the company carried out a detailed HR reorganization, where it created a regional, national as well as corporate structure to manage each of the HR sub-functions. Even with all the employee reshuffling and integration process, Aegis maintained very low attrition, including at the senior management level. In fact, most of the new additions to the senior management at Aegis have come through the recent acquisitions.

Apart from creating structured HR policies, procedures and standard operating systems, Aegis focused heavily on employee relations, on-boarding, mentoring, and better induction processes to make the transition for employees a smooth experience. It implemented SAP at the back-end, and is currently automating all its processes using an application called Heartline. It also ramped up its training programs through Aegis Ace Academy, to impart better career and leadership development skills.

Having found that travel is one of the biggest stress points for employees, Aegis is making an effort to shift its offices in Bangalore, Delhi and Gurgaon and bringing them closer into the city to reduce commute time. Going forward, Aegis plans to focus its energies toward further HR automation, and is looking at integrating its entire workforce into one single system to achieve its vision of One world, One Aegis.
