Airtel, Microsoft Partnering to Offer Windows Mobile 5.0
Entering into a strategic tie-up, Airtel and Microsoft have launched Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 platform that will deliver powerful business applications and multimedia experience to enterprise and SME customers. The telco's customers will also be able to access corporate e-mail via direct push technology. Airtel's tie-up with Microsoft comes close on the heels of the launch of its service delivery platform.

There are already 115 existing mobile operators who offer the Windows Mobile solution worldwide. However, in India, Airtel will be the first telco to offer the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform, which offers a host of applications. The Airtel customers will have access to MS office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet Explorer), multi-media functionality (camera, MP3, video recording) and line of business applications like sales force automation on their mobile phones. Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 will be available to Airtel customers on the latest HP I-Paq and I-Mate handsets.

Addressing the growing mobile workforce population, the solution is targeted at both the enterprise and SME customers. The adoption among enterprise customers is likely to come from organizations using MS Exchange as their core platform for mail applications within their enterprise. Windows Mobile 5.0 is seamlessly integrated with MS Exchange server 2003. Airtel is also looking at the tie-up as an opportunity to tap into the SME market.

Webaroo's Enhanced Free Mobile Offline Web
Provider of offline web technology, Webaroo has introduced the new version of its free mobile offline web. Some of the innovations in the new upgraded version include increased control, support for saving multimedia attachments, browser button for adding web pages and sites and content location control.

According to Beerud Sheth, Webaroo CTO and co-founder, these improvements have been based on feedback received over the last few months. Under increased control, several new features have been integrated to provide deeper management and manipulation of each person's custom, mobile web. The new version also allows users to import bookmarks from IE and Firefox browsers into Webaroo in one simple step. Users also have the option to select the location on their hard disk where the offline web is stored as part of the content location feature. Webaroo now supports downloading embedded attachments on websites including documents, audio and video content.

While there is growing interest in accessing Internet content on mobile devices, consumers have been challenged with small screens and slow and expensive connections. Webaroo helps in providing the experience of a fast broadband connection on a disconnected mobile device, nearly eliminating the drawbacks of slow or unavailable wireless networks and high cellular Internet costs.

Webaroo is compatible with computers running Windows XP and 2000 and hand-helds running Windows Pocket PC 2003 SE or Windows Mobile 5.0. Support for the other operating systems will follow soon.
