Sage Acquires Corum Mobile Division
Sage Software has announced the acquisition of Corum Mobile Division of Canada based Corum Corporation, specializing in mobile CRM technology. The Corum Mobile Platform provides the infrastructure and functionality needed to design, build, deploy and manage scalable mobile applications that include mobile sales and field service automation.

The acquisition strengthens Sage's current and planned use of Corum's mobile CRM technology, which is already fully integrated with and available for Sage CRM SalesLogix. The Corum Mobile Platform supports BlackBerry, Microsoft Windows Mobile, and Palm hand-held devices using the Windows Mobile operating system, and provides users with secure, always available, access to critical information within their existing enterprise software.

Lenovo Launches Advanced Notebooks
Lenovo has introduced its new range of feature rich notebooks catering to the home and SOHO customers in India. The two notebooks, Lenovo Y300 and Y500 come with biometric face recognition technology, enhancing data security and allowing the notebooks to be used by multiple users seamlessly. The Lenovo Y300 is targeted at tech-savvy and security-conscious consumers, while the Lenovo Y500 is targeted at security-conscious consumers and multimedia enthusiasts.

The face recognition feature is supported by Veriface software. The technology recognizes multiple users and logs onto the Windows operating system and other applications without requiring users to remember a single password.

Additionally, the Y500 has advanced Dolby home theater, a shuttle center for easy navigation between features, a slot-in ODD and a TV tuner card that combine together to make it an ideal notebook for multimedia enthusiasts.

Nortel's WiMax Trial in Delhi
Nortel is gearing up to launch its fixed WiMax trial run in New Delhi and Gurgaon. The company officials are tight-lipped about the project details and are not sharing the partner they are launching the test-run with. Mallikaarjun Rao, director (Carrier Networks), Nortel India, agreed that the company is going to start the test run in December. In the last month, Intel chairman Craig Barrett visited Baramati in Maharashtra and launched a WiMax network for a digital hospital.

Search Google in Airtel
Bharti Airtel and Google have announced a strategic partnership in which Airtel will bring Google search to the Airtel Live mobile WAP portal. Google will also incorporate advertising through its mobile ads product on the Airtel Live mobile portal. The Google search engine on Airtel Live mobile portal will enable Airtel users to use the Google search engine to easily access content. Google will power searches on Airtel Live in two areas, on net and off net.

Avaya's Embedded Communication
Avaya Global Services is working on embedded communication offerings that would be integrated with business processes directly, thus making communication automated while obviating the need for thinking about communication per se. The Pune center has a current headcount of 600 people, and has been growing at 50% for the past few years. The trials of various products are already in progress and Avaya would be shipping the first SOA versions in February as a notification tool.

Ericsson-Intel Joint Services
Ericsson has announced a joint effort with Intel to accelerate deployment of services and applications on mobile PCs powered by Ericsson's mobile broadband and IMS solutions and Intel core micro-architecture for mobile clients and servers. Both the companies would work together on integrating solutions for mobile operators. These integrated solutions will be based on Ericsson's high-speed packet access platform for mobile broadband and IMS platform for convergence with Intel's Mobile technology.

mFormation Enters Strategic Mobile Payments Alliance with Visa
Mobile device management solutions provider, mFormation Technologies Inc, has announced a strategic alliance with Visa International to advance over-the-air (OTA) solutions for mobile payments. As part of the relationship, Visa has made a strategic investment in mFormation.

mFormation and Visa will work together, bringing in their respective expertise in the mobile and financial industries, to develop OAT delivery and management solutions for mobile payment applications. The pilot trials of these new functionalities are expected in the year 2007. mFormation provides solutions that enable mobile operators to manage wireless handsets and mobile services remotely. This ability offers the potential for banks and operators to securely and remotely provision mobile devices with payment applications.

F-Secure Mobile Security
F-Secure has announced the launch of its latest mobile product, F-Secure mobile security. In addition to previous versions of F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus, the F-Secure mobile security for S60 3rd edition now features a firewall to guard against mobile malware threats and intrusion attempts. F-Secure is the first mobile security vendor to offer a complete mobile security solution with firewall for devices based on S60 3rd edition and Symbian OS v9. The firewall featured in the new F-Secure mobile security solution has pre-defined firewall profiles for regulating both incoming and outgoing traffic providing easy and automatic protection.

Nokia Launches E62 Smartphone
With its launch in the country, India has become the second country in the world after US to sell the Nokia E62 Smartphone. The latest entrant into Nokia's flagship E series range will further strengthen the company's business mobility offerings.

According to InStat, a leading market research firm, 18.8 mn smartphones were sold in APAC in 2006 and this number is expected to increase to 64.2 mn by 2010.

Nokia E62 has a full messaging keyboard and supports the Nokia PC Suite. It supports multiple audio formats that include MP3, MPEG4 (ACC), RealAudio and MIDI formats.
