Kirusa's Voice SMS Initiative
Kirusa, the Value added mobile services provider, has launched its International Voice SMS initiative which enables mobile subscribers around the world to send voice SMS messages to recipients in other countries. One of the biggest draws of the initiative is that it will cost a fraction of the international voice calls.

Kirusa's international Voice SMS initiative allows its clients to offer seamless, integrated International Voice SMS experience to their mobile subscribers, enabling them to send Voice SMS messages to anyone around the globe; even in countries where mobile operators have not yet launched the Voice SMS service. The Kirusa initiative allows subscribers to send Voice SMS to almost one billion mobile subscribers today.

For mobile operators, the high value and margin for international messages adds to the revenue base. Mobile subscribers in countries where operators have yet to launch the service will be able to easily access and reply to messages using domestic access numbers.

According to Dr Inderpal Singh Mumick, founder and CEO, Kirusa, "Kirusa has always been at the forefront of introducing pioneering technologies that provide new ways for people to communicate, and bind the industry together. We envision that eventually Voice SMS will be as universal as Text SMS, and would require the development of a global interoperability standard."

These three organizations undertaking the pilot project in Pune, plan to utilize biofuels in order to power mobile base stations situated beyond the reach of electricity grids. The first phase, which is testing the feasibility of non-edible plant-based fuels, such as cotton and jatropha, is nearing completion.

Mobile Malware Up
McAfee has announced its findings of a new research conducted by Informa Telecoms and Media between December 2006 and January 2007which reveals mobile operators globally are experiencing more mobile malware attacks than ever before, and spending more time and money on recovery from these attacks. The research found that nearly half of the operators who have experienced mobile malware outbreaks have had one within the last three months. The number of mobile operators in the Europe and APAC reporting incidents affecting more than 1,000 devices doubled in 2006. Twice as many mobile operators spent over $200,000 on mobile security in 2006, compared to 2005. The finding also revealed that 83% of the mobile operators questioned have been hit by mobile device infections and the number of reported security incidents in 2006 was more than five times higher than 2005.

The research also highlighted that despite the fact that most mobile operators are experiencing mobile security incidents, there is a large gap between the kind of protection operators consider important and what they actually deploy.

This modular three-pronged approach is targeted to enable the mobile operators to create a secure framework on which they can build their future services.

The solution comprises of three modules-Assess, Protect and Recover. It provides operators with a professional risk assessment of the threats to their business, comprehensive protection for the network, devices, content and applications and effective recovery services from malware outbreaks.
