Infonox and PayMate Launch Mobile Apps
Infonox has partnered with PayMate to develop a suite of mobile payment products
for the US market. With this alliance, the existing businesses on Infonox
platform, which include major merchant acquirers, financial service aggregators
and banks, will have the instant ability to offer their branded transaction
services on cell phones. The initial multi-application set includes
mobile/cellular phone versions of transactional services like bill payment,
money transfer (cross border), and POS payments at merchant locations.
VSNL's ReadyAccess Solution
VSNL International has announced the launch of its global white label
ReadyAccess messaging solution for mobile network operators (MNOs). VSNL
International, through its global partnership with Microsoft, has specifically
designed this hosted Microsoft Exchange solution to enable MNOs with the ability
to offer their customers a superior quality end-to-end business messaging and
collaboration solution with added push email connectivity in a cost-effective
and expedited manner.
Hutch Teams up with Microsoft
Hutch has teamed up with Microsoft to offer Live Search for its mobile
customers. Live Search for mobile will now enable Hutch subscribers to search
for content like tones, images, videos, and games on PlanetHutch as well as
information on the worldwide Web. The Live Search for mobile box will be
available on the PlanetHutch home page.
Motorola's Entertainment PDA
Motorola has announced the launch of its new flagship entertainment PDA-OTOROKR
E6. The E6 has been specifically designed to create superior experiences around
video, music, games, and photos. MOTOROKR is the first Motorola handset in India
to offer Music ID and Screen 3 applications. Music ID is a Song Identification
service that enables a user to identify the artist and album information of
songs being played in the immediate surroundings.
Ensim's Updated Service Managers
Ensim has announced the release of updated service managers for Hosted Exchange
and BlackBerry. This is targeted to bring about greater efficiency and
productivity benefits to service providers and their customers. Co-developed
with Microsoft, it enables service providers to centrally create, control, and
deliver hosted IP and application services. The new version of the Ensim Unify
Service Managers for Hosted Exchange 2003 and BlackBerry offer automatic
provisioning of mobile devices.

Navigation on Mobile
IT products firm SatNav Technologies has developed a navigation software
that will enable users to find correct routes and locations on their
mobile devices. The software, called Satguide, priced at Rs 5,000, can be
installed on all Windows mobile devices like pocket PCs and personal
digital assistants.
One97 Gets SAIF Fund
Delhi-based mobile value added services company One97 Communications has
received Series A funding from SAIF Partners. Silicon Valley Bank haAs
also participated in the current round with a minority contribution. One97
has to its credit India's first short code SMS service, 3030. With this
investment, SAIF Partners has increased its India portfolio to more than
ten companies, including National Stock exchange, IL&FS Investsmart,
Makemytrip.com, TV18 Group etc
Looking Beyond 3G
As W-CDMA deployments continue to expand worldwide, Texas Instruments is
now looking beyond 3G to long term evolution (LTE). An initiative of the
Third Generation Partnership Program, LTE encompasses higher data rates
and flexibility in frequency allocations needed to support IP-based
applications set to deploy between 2008 and 2012. In order to accelerate
original equipment manufacturers' time to market with LTE technology, TI
has created a development ecosystem, combining its wireless
infrastructure, optimized digital signal processors, software libraries
and ATCA/AMC cards. |
Telsima Receives $50 mn Funding
Telsima, developer and provider of WiMax-based broadband wireless access and
mobility solutions has received $50 mn in new funding. It includes commitments
from the initial investor syndicate: NewPath Ventures, New Enterprise
Associates, CMEA Ventures, JAFCO Asia, and other strategic investors. Telsima is
rapidly growing its customer base with commercial deployments in emerging
markets such as India, and Central and Eastern Europe.
First of SiS-Clevo light-weight Notebooks
Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) has released the first SiSM671-based
notebook PC, Clevo M721S/M720S into the market. The new model is co-developed by
SiS and Clevo, and is designed to be compatible for Windows Vista.
Clevo M721S and M720S are both very light-weight and easy to
carry. The Clevo M721S/M720S combines 12.1'' LCD monitor at the weight of
1.8 kg. It offers customers ease and convenience by supporting high-speed UMTS/HSDPA
network. Also, it equips fingerprint detection technology to ensure the security
of information.
With SiSM671 integrated chipset, Clevo M721S/M720S notebook PCs
supports Intel Core 2 Duo, Pentium 4 and Pentium D processors. It also supports
DDR2 667/533 memory and the memory size up to 4GB. Embedded with SiS Mirage 3
graphics engine, which supports DirectX 9.0, the notebook PC is capable of
providing smooth animation in 2D and 3D condition with Vertex Shader2.0 and
Pixel Shader2.0 technology.
The SiS968 Southbridge chipset is paired with the SiSM671
Northbridge chipset to enrich the overall performance of Clevo M721S/M720S
notebook PCs. With the support to PCI Express x1 transmission, Serial ATA
interface, 3 USB2.0 ports, High Definition Audio and 10/100Mbps Ethernet, the
SiS968 Southbridge chipset is able to meet customers' requirements.
Next Gen Streaming
AirChord, provider of interactive mobile multimedia system, has unveiled its 'next
generation' streaming technology in the Indian market. AirChord is among the
first to offer a single service that covers the audio, video, TV and user
defined channels to be streamed from anywhere to anywhere over mobile data
channels.
The application allows users to access numerous feeds from
across the world including audio feeds of various Indian languages. It will also
enable content providers to offer multimedia services to consumers on various
handsets that support Window CE, Java, Symbian OS, Brew, and Palm OS.
According to Sanjay Sinha, CEO, Airchord Televenture, "Over
the years one has been seeing the media moving from 70 mm to TV, and now the
paradigm shift is happening towards smaller screens which will become the medium
of interacting, watching and listening to worldwide events as and when it
happens."
AirChord's technology will also support Indian enterprises to
seamlessly integrate with their existing infrastructure.
In the subsequent version, mobile users will also be able to
watch their preferred TV broadcast from any part of the world. The technology
will soon be available to mobile users in India at an affordable cost.
Palm Launches Treo 680
Palm has introduced the Treo 680 smartphone, a GSM/GPRS/EDGE quad-band world
phone, in India. The Treo 680 smartphone has a recommended retail price of Rs
25,500 and is available now at major retail outlets in India. It has an internal
antenna and is designed with ease of use in mind. Treo 680 has a full, easy-type
keyboard, perfect for writing SMS messages and emails, and an optimal 320x320
vibrant color screen for viewing web pages, photos, media, and more. The Treo
680 smartphone can be used as an MP3 player and has an integrated digital camera
with video-capture support and video player.
With Treo 680, Palm is targeting new users in the rapidly
growing smartphone and feature-phone markets. According to Sharon Ee, head,
Business, South Asia, Palm, "The Treo 680 together with a world-class Palm
experience will attract a broader range of users who want an easy-to-use
solution to manage and balance their work and personal lives while on the
go."
