Avantgo for Blackberry
Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. has launched AvantGo client for BlackBerry smart phones. BlackBerry users will be able to access updated, customized content from thousands of mobile Websites anytime and anywhere in either an online or offline mode, in a format that is optimized for BlackBerry smart phones.

AvantGo for BlackBerry is available free for end-users. BlackBerry users can access and download the client through the BlackBerry browser at www.avantgo.com. According to Marty Beard, president, Sybase 365. "AvantGo for BlackBerry demonstrates our dedication to providing the best in mobile content and extending our platform for mobile advertising."

AvantGo for BlackBerry caches content locally, providing enhanced navigation, faster browsing and dual online and offline availability. It utilizes its patented advanced sync technology, which automatically updates pages on the device giving the user access to the latest news and information around the clock.

Alereon in Pune
Alereon has announced the opening of Alereon Semiconductors, the company's new product oriented R&D facility in Pune. Alereon's new state-of-the-art operation expands Alereon's team to accommodate the growth in interest for the company's certified ultrawideband solutions. The focus of the R&D center will be to continue to develop the company's patented UWB chipsets, such as the AL4000, for the next generation of products.

'Pearl White' from RIM
Research In Motion (RIM) has launched the new 'Pearl White' BlackBerry Pearl in India. The BlackBerry Pearl smart phone features support for phone, email, messaging, organizer, Web browser and other mobile applications and comes complete with a digital camera, multimedia player and an expandable memory slot. Premium phone features including Speaker Independent Voice Recognition (SIVR) for Voice Activated Dialing (VAD), dedicated 'send', 'end', and 'mute' keys, speakerphone, and Bluetooth to support hands-free use with headsets and car kits as well as other Bluetooth peripherals.

VSNL's International Alliance
VSNL is set to tap into the international business travelers' segment by providing roaming wireless broadband service. This service will be provided to high-value travelers during their stay in India. VSNL today becomes the first Indian service provider to enter into a Wireless Broadband roaming alliance with an international operator. The unique service will allow seamless roaming and usage within the VSNL Wireless Broadband network in India wherein visitors can access high speed wireless broadband using their home country account and identity.

Connect Mobile
Aventail launched Aventail Connect Mobile for smart phones to provide full support and secure end point control for Windows Mobile smart phones. Connect Mobile is an easy-to-use and easy-to-manage add-on to Aventail's SSL VPN appliances, allowing IT managers to easily extend their secure remote access solution to all mobile devices. As such, it is part of an integrated solution for all remote access, including laptops, kiosks, home computers, Windows Mobile PDAs, and now smart phones. Connect Mobile gives end users an in-office experience.

Cartoon Network on Mobile
Turner has extended the mobile presence of its Cartoon Network by expanding its association with Mobile2win. As part of this latest venture, Mobile2win will create a WAP site for Cartoon Network and provide support in content distribution across mobile carriers for the network. Cartoon Network's content is now launched on Hutch, Airtel, BPL and Spice Telecom. Mobile2win will also distribute Cartoon Network's premium mobile content such as wallpapers, animations, themes, ring tones, and games for Cartoon Network's popular shows.

GupShup on Webaroo
Webaroo has announced the launch of 'SMS GupShup', a free group messaging service in India. SMS GupShup offers a simple way to create groups of any size and communicate with them. The service is free of cost to the users and advertising will support revenues.

Using single SMS message, users can join any group they choose. They will then automatically receive messages posted to the group as an SMS on their phone. Similarly, users can use SMS messages to create their own groups, invite friends and post messages to the group. Additionally, users can also run a poll, rating and quiz within their group. Groups and messages are archived online at www.smsgupshup.com, except for private groups.

MTNL's Voice SMS
MTNL has announced the launch of 'Convergent' Voice SMS service for its fixed and mobile subscribers. Based on the patented 'Voice SMS' technology from Kirusa, the service will allow the MTNL subscribers to send voice SMS messages to fixed line and mobile phones. The service is currently available to MTNL's subscribers in Delhi, and will be available to MTNL subscribers in Mumbai shortly.

MTNL fixed line and mobile subscribers will pay Re 1 per minute to send, forward or reply to a voice SMS. According to AK Arora, executive director of MTNL, "This is the first time that fixed line subscribers will be able to benefit from a voice SMS service. We believe that Kirusa's voice SMS will generate heavy usage as it provides value to our entire subscriber base."
