Bytes: HPs RFID Solution for Indian Retailers

Built on its internal RFID expertise, HP has extended the RFID services to Indian customers as part of its TSG portfolio. The new offerings are specifically designed for the supply chain and will help retailers to reduce out of stocks, reduce asset shrinkage, and provide them with supply chain visibility. Through RFID, retailers can experience improved supply chain efficiencies leading to greater accuracy of inventory tracking, reduced stock-outs, faster throughput, and reduced demands for labor-intensive stock checks.

ASUS launches PDA Phones in India

As part of its mobile communication product strategy for India, ASUS Technology has launched two of its premium PDA phones, P526 and M30w, for business professionals. India Digital Lifestyle Distributors will be distributing these PDA-phones to large format and mobile phone retailers across the country. The company is also in talks with various mobile telecom service providers to bundle ASUS PDA phones with their new subscribers.

The company plans to initially target the top five metros, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai for the PDA phones, followed by other cities and towns across India. We see a huge potential going forward in the PDA Phone market in India. We have leveraged our global leadership in the PC peripherals market acknowledged for quality well engineered products experience to develop best quality PDA phones for the Indian Market, says Benson Lin, general manager, ASUS, Asia Pacific.

SatNav launches GPS Receiver for Windows Phones

Hyderabad-based SatNav Technologies has launched a GPS Bluetooth Receiver under its SatGuide brand. The GPS SiRFIII Bluetooth GPS device is a total solution for the GPS Bluetooth wireless technology. The device is priced at Rs 6,000 along with one city map and the SatGuide software.

This is a dedicated design for users who carry portable devices like PDAs/smart phones. GPS receiver works on all smart phones, laptop, PDA of all brands. The maximum range of operation of the receiver is 10 meters from the parent device. The high performance, high sensitivity device is an ideal receiver that can be used in any weather condition, making it easy to find the way to any destination.

This device is of size of a matchbox and works in sync with the mobile phone. It acts as a receiver of the signals that are transmitted via satellites and sends these signals in the form of words to the mobile phone. Customers can choose an All-India highway map or any of the detailed city maps of Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Pune. This device is available for sale online at www.satguide.in or through the dealers of the company.

Lenovo Launches Y510 Notebook Series

Lenovo has launched its new entertainment notebook PC, the Y510 series. With prices starting at Rs 45,990, Lenovo Y510 gives users easy access to music and movies with features like a Dolby sound system, built-in TV tuner, and face recognition for locked-down security.

The Lenovo Y510 introduces a Dolby 4.1 Home Theater speaker system for enhanced sound output for movies, videos, music and games. The Y510s multimedia features are accessed and controlled through a sleek touch-sensitive pad that lets users operate movies and music in a comfortable and flexible manner. An in-built TV tuner card helps ensure instant television connectivity accentuating the multimedia experience.

The Lenovo Y510 series features One Key Recovery to restore factory preload settings and has an extended battery management feature to customize user-specific battery usage patterns. The Y510 also incorporates a 6-in-1 multi-card reader for downloading digital pictures from multiple types of memory cards, slot-in optical drive for ease of use and a 1.3 MP integrated camera. The Y510 comes with 160 Gb SATA hard disk, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 802.11 Wi-Fi and Vista Home Basic/Premium version. It weighs 2.77 kg and supports a long battery life of up to four hours.

VOXtel Launches Personal Navigation Devices

Voxtel Telecom has forayed into the Indian Telecom equipment market with its high performance GPS-based personal navigation devices and VoIP Internet phones. Voxtel is offering a gamut of advanced technology products, which include digital cordless phones, VoIP phones and high performance GPS personal navigation devices. The company is also launching multipacks cordless phones. These multipacks cordless phones will serve as a mini PABX for SOHO and big houses to transfer calls, make conference calls, and use high quality Intercom functions.

ZyXEL Launches Dual Band Wireless Router

ZyXEL Communications has introduced its latest Dual Band Wireless Router with Bandwidth management. ZyXEL P-335U provides high speed 802.11g and 802.11a wireless connection. In addition to 802.11g, the P-335U also supports the 802.11a band to provide high speed and transmission quality to bandwidth sensitive applications such as video/audio streaming. The all-new dual band router, P-335U also performs inspection filtering for effective network protection. It also manages the limited bandwidth for multimedia applications.

Airtel Partners Mformation
Mformation Technologies has announced that Bharti Airtel will use its technology as the core platform for enabling the delivery of new data services and managing the mobile devices of its more than 48 mn mobile subscribers. Bharti Airtel will use Mformation Service Manager to configure, diagnose, update, and manage advanced mobile devices through every phase of their lifecycle. Mformations platform will be critical to the launch of new mobile data services and applications like instant messaging and device browsers.

Opera, TTSL Ally
Opera Software has announced its partnership with Tata Teleservices (TTSL) to provide Opera Mini on its upcoming BREW-enabled handsets. The browser will be made available first on the Huawei C2900i, a mass-market BREW-enabled handset. Mobile Web on affordable mobile devices will open up the power of the Internet to a huge base of mass consumers in a language of their choice.

Telsima Unveils Mobile WiMax Base Station
Telsima unveiled its IEEE 802.16e-2005 Mobile WiMax Base Station at the India Telecom 2007 show. The StarMAX 6400 series-based mobile WiMax base station features ensure that it is mobile and enterprise/portable application agnostic. Telsima has developed a comprehensive set of solutions for its 6400 series base station including PHY, MAC, QoS, hand-off, RRM, WiMax management and user management.

Hungama, Paramount Partner
Hungama Mobile has signed an agreement with Paramount digital entertainment to localize and distribute Paramount branded mobile and interactive content for the Indian market. The agreement makes Paramounts wireless and interactive content available to more than 200 million Indian subscribers. The primary intent of the agreement between Paramount Pictures and Hungama Mobile is to combine their strengths and experiences to deliver advanced technology-based, interactive and entertaining mobile content. Services include themed logos, polyphonic ring-tones, animated wallpaper screens, mobile games, video clips, and applications, among others to be based upon Paramounts catalogue.

Mobilaris, Mobispine Eye Indian market
Mobilaris and Mobispine are looking at India as a strategic investment destination and are desirous of expanding their business operations to the country. IFS, which played host to the Swedish delegation, will facilitate networking and matchmaking between Indian software companies and the Swedish delegation. These companies will be meeting officials from Indian mobile network operators and distributors of mobile services, which include companies like BSNL, Vodaphone Essar, Reliance Telecom, Tata Indicom, Spice Telecom among others. The Swedish ICT delegation is exploring the possibility of identifying potential channel partners, technology collaborators, potential customers, and service providers in India.
