Juice Wireless has announced the launch of JuiceCaster, a unified mobile and
Web social media application, in India. The company is in discussion with
leading Indian operators regarding strategic on-deck launch plans for the Indian
market. The company will also open its office in Mumbai in the third quarter of
2008.
JuiceCaster allows anyone with a camera-enabled mobile phone to create and
consume rich media content from their wireless devices and the Web, and then
automatically share it with their friends and family. JuiceCaster also
automatically connects a mobile phone users pictures and videos with Web-based
social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and Orkut.
Juice has a strategic partnership with Mavin Infotech in Hyderabad for
content monitoring and development, as well as an additional application
development center in Delhi.
VSNL, iPass Deal for Wi-Fi Roaming in India
VSNL has announced addition of over 350 Tata Indicom Wi-Fi hotspots into the
iPass Global Broadband Roaming Network. With the integration of these services,
not only do iPass customers get added coverage, but the VSNL Partner Hotels,
Cafes, etc, which have deployed VSNL Wi-Fi services on their premises, also
benefit from increased roaming usage. Shankar Prasad, president, Retail Business
Unit, VSNL, informed that the company has drawn up major plans this year to
further enhance its footprint to over 1,000 hotspots from the existing 350.
Tata Indicom Wi-Fi hotspot locations include major domestic and international
airports, leading premium hotels, railway stations, educational institutions,
sports stadiums, hospitals, restaurant, coffee shop chains, and retail stores.
Key locations include Taj Hotels Group, Le Mridien, Caf Coffee Day, Barista,
Manipal University, and Wockhard. Before being integrated into the iPass Global
Roaming network, the Tata Indicom Wi-Fi access points went through rigorous
iPass enterprise-ready certification process. This involved testing the hotspots
against reliability and quality of service standards.
New PDA Phone from ASUS, IDLDPL
Asus India, along with IDLDPL (India Digital Life Style Distributors), has
launched its latest PDA phone, the P750. The P750 is a tri-band GSM PDA phone
with GPS capabilities as well as Wi-Fi, 3.5G with HSDPA and Bluetooth with A2DP
connectivity.

The ASUS P750 is powered with a 520 MHz Marvell PXA270M processor and runs
Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional. Its a tri-band GSM handset with GPRS/EDGE and
3G/HSDPA connectivity, supporting download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps with
suitable network coverage. The device has 256 Mb of flash ROM. According to
Surinder Saini, assistant vice president, Sales, IDLDPL, the handset is a
complete business application and connectivity set that will allow users to
carry their office communication device in their palms. A basic feature of the
device is the presence of GPS chipset SiRFStar III. ASUS provides two GPS-aware
applicationsLocation Courier and Travelog. Location Courier allows you to send
an SMS containing your latitude and longitude to up to five recipients at once.
Sybase 365 Leads Strategy into Emerging Segments
Sybase 365 has announced executive management appointments and creation of a
new business unit to capitalize and expand the companys presence in the mobile
messaging space. The company will be pushing forward into two emerging mobile
segmentsmobile commerce and mobile advertisingto help create new revenue
streams for the operator and brand and content provider customers as well as new
enterprise customers.
In terms of appointments, Howard Stevens, previously VP, EMEA, has been
promoted as senior vice president, International Operations. In his new role,
Stevens will continue to lead the EMEA region as well as take on responsibility
for all Asia-Pacific field operations.
Matthew Talbot, VP, Asia-Pacific, for the past four years, has assumed a new
role as VP, m-commerce. In this role, Talbot will head a newly created business
unit within Sybase 365 which will focus on building global leadership in mobile
banking and mobile payments. Gregory Dunn, VP, Americas, has assumed additional
responsibility for directing Sybase 365s mobile advertising business. Dunn and
his team are positioned to extend Sybase 365s advertising offering via the
operator, content provider, and advertising agency channels.
D-Links Wireless Router for Broadband Connection
D-Link India has launched its latest Wireless G Router (DIR-300). DIR-300 is
an entry-level Wireless G router for home and small office users. With DIR-300,
one can share a broadband Internet connection with multiple computers by
connecting it to a cable or DSL modem. The DIR-300 is available in the market at
an approximate street price of Rs 2,625 plus taxes.
The router includes stateful packet inspection as well as firewall functions
to safeguard your network from harmful attacks. A key feature of DIR-300 is its
scheduling parental control, which helps parents to have more flexible control
when kids access the Internet. This router allows users to share the Internet
through either wired or wireless connection.
DIR-300 is also based on the 802.11g standard and is backward compatible with
802.11b. Wireless encryptions such as WEP, WPA, and WPA2 are supported to ensure
that data gets securely transmitted over the wireless network. Lastly, the
package also includes a quick router setup wizard utility to help users set up
the unit for their networks and over the Internet with just a few clicks.
RCOM, CanvasM Partner for Multiplayer Mobile Games
Reliance Communications has tied up with mobile VAS company, CanvasM, to
introduce multi-player mobile games for its customers in India. As part of its
partnership with Reliance Communications, CanvasM will engage the Internet and
mobile customers instantaneously from different locations. It will also provide
to Reliance Communications a variety of international and domestic multi-player
games. CanvasMs multi-player gaming platform houses a catalogue of fifteen
cross-media games. Apart from this, it has provisions for developing content as
well as fostering third party content.
To download multiplayer mobile games, customers will have to access Reliance
Mobile World>Games>Multi-player Games. MMG also allows advertisers to create
specific buddy lists, chat with gamers, gauge their moods and send tailored
promotional messages accordingly. Customers will be charged Rs 99 per month for
downloading a pack of three games, with unlimited plays for a month.
